quote:This car has Indianapolis written all over it. Feel like Jeff Gordon or Rusty Wallace when you're behind the wheel of this 357 HP Pace Car. The car was on the track for the 1998 running of the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis which was won by Jeff Gordon. It has a 5.7L V8 engine that sports 357 HP and 300 ft-lb of torque.
The functional RAM AIR really gives the car an extra boost. The car still has the Pace Strobe Lights in the front head light housings.
Even the stereo system says Indianapolis. The head unit is a high end Pioneer with a race screesaver.
There is a 6" Bazooka Base Tube in the trunk along with an Amp that powers the rear speakers.
The body of the car is entirely composed of fiberglass.
VIN: 2G1FP32GXW2150103
Does anyone know if this car really paced the race?
Besides the stereo being aftermarket, I'm suspicious that those strobes are too.
Looks like the h.p. #'s are a bit inflated.
...and I guess the seller doesn't know the car really isn't fiberglass.
*sigh* I hope it goes to a good home to someone who really knows the car.

I would probably check either with GM or Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see if the car is the legitamate Pace Car Teri.
It looks very nice. Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :

No worries............. A message is already in to the proper authority.
It is a very nice car...I like the '98-'01's (white).

For a '98 that is correct.

Funny thing terri, I was up late and couldn't sleep so I was surfing ebay. I came across this and did a little checking.... its legit. The car was delevered to GM-NAO (at that time) on Mound Road in Warren which is the tech center. Then it was dropped to a dealer in indy.... Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :

Ah, very cool. I hope it goes to a good home. I also hope the electrical system isn't messed up with that stereo install. If it were mine, that would be the first thing taken out of there.

357hp and 300 ft-lbs of torque? What did they do add horsepower and reduce the amount of torque? Those numbers seem kind of screwy to me. Does anyone have info on why these numbers are like this or does the owner not know what the car is?

Teri, most of those Camaros had their decals removed by the selling dealer.Looks pretty legit to me. Do you know what # it is? I could find out from that or the VIN. Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :

I don't doubt that it's at least a Festival Car. As far as THE car that paced the race and was equipped with strobe lights from the start....that's where I get skeptical. For a car with that kind of history, I think there'd be some kind of documentation for it, and I don't think the real Pace Car for the race would be in the hands of someone who doesn't know more about it.
Ah...I wish Howard was here to answer those questions. I don't know where my pace car issue of Camaro World is that talks about the '98's.
It pains me to think that it's in the hands of someone who would ruin it with that aftermarket stereo and sub. I hate reading mis-information like "the entire car is made of fiberglass".
As far as the white top and interior..... who would be crazy enough to own a car w/that combination?

I really doubt that the car paced the race. You cannot buy the car's with the strobes in them from GM, not allowed to sell them to the public. So they have to be after market. And as far as I know the Camaro never really paced a Brickyard Race, just in the Indy 500. Probaly a festival car, but not a pace car.

Yup, that's what I'm thinking. If that's the case, the car was misrepresented. Oh well, it didn't sell, but unless the seller is educated about what he really has, someone who believes him will end up with it and perpetuate the bad information.

Sorry guys and gals, that it took so long to get back to you on this.......
the car was a Festival car.....but NO mods made by GM. (sorry, we don't put strobes in cars and then resell 'em)
The Horsepower increase and all the other stuff was done after it was used at Indy............
