I believe "Hawkeye" had something from 3M on the front of his car you might want to check with him. I think it was a film not a bra .

We have on from 3-M, but haven't installed it.

Are you looking for a permanent application or something temporary for road trips?

By searching for "Paint Protection film" I found this
Thread on Chirpthird.
I looked into this quite a bit last year.

If you are looking for something more permanent (but still could be removed), ...check into the "3M Scotchcal" Paint Protection Film. It is a bit pricey (about $25 for a 6"x84" roll) but it is great stuff. Here is the 3M part number for it if you are interested: #51141 84906 (from the barcode, ...but the last 5 digits ( #84906) should be sufficient to order it.

I recently put this on my rocker panels, ...you can't even see it and it works great to protect against chips.

ANOTHER USE for 3M SCOTCHCAL... I also recently put it over ALL my door jamb stickers (GM, SLP content, etc.) to protect them. To protect these is worth it by itself. Yeh, ...maybe a bit 'anal', ...but it works!!

Hope this helps...

Kevin

Not anal at all. Thanks for the help, both of you.

I have used the 3M and the Pro - Stripe /
Trim Brite paint protector.

The 3M is easier to apply, thinner and will scratch much easier than the Trim Brite. I've
made templates for the front and for behind
the wheels. I used it last summer for trips to
Ohio and Kentucky. No stone chips or bug problems.

You can Zaino right over it, but after a summer
of use it looks a little ratty. The good news is
that when you peel it off, the paint underneath
is in perfect condition. Well worth the $$ and
the effort to apply and get all the bubbles out [Big Grin]

That's the 3M stuff. It's precut so very little
trimming, but it does scratch easy.

Thanks for the link.

when you say it scratches easy are you saying the film scratches easy or the film scratches the paint?

...the film scratches, ...not the paint.

right you are Kev, the film scratches, the paint
underneath is fine. Either product will do the
job for you. Just be patient when applying to get
out as many bubbles as you can. Have fun, enjoy
your ride [Big Grin]

Just my .02 but I remember when i got my 69 painted the auto body guy was saying how paint was sort of a "living/moving" thing that needs to breath....any thoughts on this and possibilities of suffocation?

You don't have to leave it on forever. You can
if you desire, but it can give temporary coverage
for road trips. It's great behind the rear wheels
before a night at the track. My $0.02.
