I really didn't pick up on this till I stared at the front cover of a recent GMHTP Magazine.
To me the front end of the Chevrolet SS would be a natural evolution to a gen 5 Camaro. A little stubbier to reduce overall length, fender buldges to make it a little easier to see where the car is on the road...
What do you think?

I just might be able to go along with your line of thinking there Art.....just needs hood scoop to muscle it up a little.... Posted by JohnS (Member # 1073) on :
They do have their similarities.
I'll need a little time to get used to the bubble styling (just like the Cadillac square edges).

Try not to look at it as bubbley but, look at how similar the shoulders and hips resemble a '68-72 Corvette along with brake vents.

There is an article in the August issue of Popular Hot Rodding I believe that the Camaro will be back in 2007 for its 40th Anniversary. At the moment they are still deciding which platform to use. It could either be the sigma, the new GTO platform or the Solctice. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Seeing a picture, and then seeing it in person is two WAY different things. In person, as most people have noted, looks a lot better. The wheels are MASSIVE on that sucker. I think it looks pretty sweet. A lot of styling cues and hints of retro detroit muscle in that baby. And an elegant, sleek looking interior that more than complements the exterior designing. Furthermore, no one can argue over the power this 'sports sedan concept' as this vehicle can easily be adapted to its sport's counterparts: the corvette, camaro, and firebird. Only those few special individuals know what the future will hold for the redesigned 'Camaro' as well as the C6 Corvette.I also see no problem taking away those 2 rear doors
Think of it as a new breed of muscle. Lets hope for the better, and the General will be back on top in a few years. Give it time. Good things happen to people who wait. (my 3 cents) Posted by Thom Mackesy (Member # 264) on :
Hmmm, my first thought was it looks a lot like a 2nd gen from the front..

As I have stated here before, I think the choice of platform is ridiculously easy! GM already has the Cadillac CTS and the new GTO on the Sigma platform, or variations thereof. Take the current Holden Monaro/GTO, shape it a little tougher (I like to think it would have REAL dual pipes)throw in an LS-6, which the GTO will have for it's second year, as well as a ram air hood (and the aftermarket people are probably working that on right now for the first year)and you've got the 5th Gen Camaro SS! How hard could it be?

The question is would you trade your current SS in for it?

Looking at the front end, I think it resembles the SSR, knowing GM I could see them doing a parallel production, like the Chevelle/Malibu and El Camino...? Maybe?

I wouldn't trade any vehicles in I would just add it to my collection if indeed the above picture is an indication of the " 5th Gen " Camaro.
If you all can pick up the August issue of Popular Hot Rodding Magazine as it has articles on " Musclecars ". They say the 5th Gen will be back in 2007 and quite possibly the El Camino may be resurrected as well. Only time will tell. Posted by poSSum (Member # 119) on :

Now that you guys mention it, the SSR really does resemble the El Camino. Hmmmmm.....

I mentioned on this board when the SS concept car came out that it would make an easy new Camaro, with the same mods Art mentioned. I was quickly informed my the F-bod Father that it was NOT a Camaro! heheehehe! I kinda thought it was a good idea
