A neighbor was out last Friday night on Lake Erie near the Put-In Bay Islands after a evening of drinking. I guess it was around 10:30pm when he told his brother that he wanted to get home. The brother was driving the 30' cabin cruiser when my neighbor pushed him out of the way and insisted that he drive the boat at night,45+ mph, drunk on his butt and crashed right into an island. He was thrown into the cabin part of the boat and broke his neck. His brother survived with a messed up arm. Ed was 37 years old with a 2 and 4 year old kid. The boat was totalled. The last time I checked, boats do not have headlights or brakes and at night should never be driven faster than what you can see in front of you. His neighbors who were his drinking buddies were shocked with his death. No matter what you are driving,it does not pay to drink and drive!

I absolutely hate being on the water after sunset ...I totally lose perception.

Me too, you really need headlights on a boat at night.

That's just not right. You would think you'd have respect towards your family (and friends) and dont do such a thing. Boats can be just as dangerous (if not more)than driving cars. And that's fast for a boat that size. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families. Posted by DGOETZ (Member # 1846) on :
These Islands are perfect for getting plastered an staying put. I wish more boaters thought so But as we know the intoxication and thought don't hang out together.

Oh My God !! I am sorry to hear about that Greg. My prayers go out to the families. Why oh Why do people continue to operate vehicles of any nature under the influence. We are warned time and time again and still these terrible things continue to happen. How very sad. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
