We spent our weekend with the Rose City Corvette Club at Portland International Raceway. Look for Steve's Blue w/white stripes '68 Camaro Coupe.

Sunday 7/27/03 Autocross

The last session of the day in the Advanced group ended on a serious note. A Z06 left on a flatbed tow truck after a head-on altercation with the concrete wall.
The driver of the Z06 was making a pass around another C5, and Steve was the next car behind the Z06. As taught to us at Bragg-Smith, this is what can happen on a right hand curve and attempting to shift from 3rd to 4th, but accidently bringing it down into 2nd instead.
Both occupants were o.k. and walked away. The driver was harnessed. The passenger was seat-belted in. Airbags did deploy, but not hit the occupants' faces. The only injury was to the passenger's thigh where the airbag burned her. The cars were doing about 100 mph when the Z06 hit the wall.
Steve was able to use his quick reflexes, instinct and training to avoid turning the one car incident into a multi-car pileup. The driver of the car behind Steve commended him for his control of his car and avoidance skills.

Monday 7/28/03 Track Day

Steve can fill in the details since he saw it first hand.

Thanks for the pictures! Sorry to see the ZO6 get smashed but at least they walked away.

That's one heck of a lot of pictures. Thanks for sharing. It's great to see the different types of cars on the same track. [Smile]

Thanks for the pics. Steve's Camaro really looks good. [Smile] [Cool] [Big Grin]

Question: I know most insurance does not cover racing, so was that like a $50,000 mistake?

Since it wasn't racing, but a driver training/track day, he might have a valid claim. It's up to the ins. co.
