Saw this on another board. Reserve NOT met at $113,701. Buy It Now price is $115,000.
My questions...how rare are these? Anybody know anything about them? Just wondering...

Only 69 were made like their predecessor in 1969. It is alot of money but I guarantee you if I had it I would buy it right now.
I think the 1969 versions are going for over $200,000. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure I read it in Motor Trend or Car and Driver not too long ago.

I saw 10 of these cars at a car show in Monmouth Illinois on Friday evening. They were with the original 69 ZL1 drag car, must have been a gathering or so. Wish I had my camera, man it was awesome.

The 4th gen ZL-1 cars are awesome and are a great way to celebrate the early ZL-1's, but I question whether they will have the mystique, in 30 years, that the '69 cars have today. The history of events that led up to squeezing the 427 into the '69 cars, the fact that they were an early part of an evolving Camaro history, plus them becoming very rare due to their drag racing heritage, has all added to the '69's value today. If you do the math, a $6K ZL-1 investment in '69 returns approx. $300K today, or 50X. To get the same return on a 4th gen ZL-1, at say a $90K purchase price, means they would have to be worth $4.5 million in 30 years.
You can make a good argument to buy a 2002 Camaro and spend $20 or 30K and come up with a real strip burner, that you could drive every day, for half the cost. I definitely would buy a 4th gen ZL-1 for nostalgia purposes, but not at $100K+.

When I was at Berger Chevy in May they were delivering 18 ZL1's and they had an awesome 69 zl1 (Yellow) there and Scott settlemire said the owner refused 300K for it remember that car sold new for $8,800.00 talk about appreciation! Yes these new zl1 are expensive but in the future what will they be worth? Bank Cds are payiny 1-2% now this 69 appeciated how much per year? The guys at GMMG did a great job all the paint colors were from the 69 cars! Look at current Motor trend read about the SSR and the comment about chevy letting the 35 year heritage of Camaro go away! 45K for an SSR tough sell! We need another Camaro or Chevelle, with RWD and V-8 the new Mustang is coming out in 05 hope we can have a car beside the Corvette!

Remember one significant difference. The 69 ZL-1 was factory built and authorized. These are not. They are more like the Yenko/Berger/Nickey aftermarket build ups. The new ZL-1 should be compared to them not the COPO's. Granted the aftermarket cars have appreciated greatly. However, less than half what the factory cars did.
The 100 1997 factory LT4 SS's have a good chance of appreciating by the same ratio as these ZL1's.

I've discussed this before on another thread on SLP's site about either investing in the stock market or similar securities, or in a car like this. Anywho....I'd rather gamble with securities with my money, than guessing if a car is going to be worth 35 times as much down the road. ($9000 to $300,000). This months Hemmings has one for $100,000, you can buy one from Berger for $65,000 and some change. KICKBACK
