Good-bye SLP Engineering, but only from me. SLP Eng. is still alive and in the next few weeks will be relocating to a central location with SLP PP & AG in Toms River NJ. It only makes sense with the changes in the marketplace that Ed Hamburger economize, as many other companies have done and streamline where practical. SS parts will still be available as before – that isn’t changing – just the phone number. I’ll still be around SLP Eng. as a “consultant”, so I won’t be entirely gone.

Hello – to new opportunities.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you that have said so many nice things about me (even those that I may have been sarcastic to over the years) on the different boards in the last few days.

I loved the job with SLP and I will miss it, just as I loved my job at GM with the Vette and F-car. SLP gave me a chance to meet many more of the true car enthusiasts, both in person and thru the message board, than I ever had a chance to at GM. I know that there are a lot of SLP detractors out there that are probably glad to see SLP change – too bad they’ll never understand that without SLP there would never have been a rebirth of the Camaro SS or a continuation of the WS6. But that’s another story.

I never professed to be an expert but I do know what we did and had a pretty good idea about the GM side of it as well. If I could help anyone out there, that is what I tried to do. Despite what a bunch of folks thought on some of the other boards, I tried to answer questions as best as quick as I could – I even had many people e-mail me directly so I could call them personally.

As Michelle (Flamin’ Bird) said somewhere, when she asked me to sign her car, I was embarrassed – I couldn’t figure out why someone would want me to ruin his or her beautiful car with my name on it.

And poor Dragan, I really did ruin his 10th when the pen gave a great big splat on his hood-at least its unique, it’s the only one I did that way!

At least, I won’t be spending as much time on the boards now that I don’t have to be a mod and up all night! At first, my wife accused me of having an affair with someone on the Internet. I said I was having an affair – with the best bunch of people I could ever hope to know.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the nicest people – and the best part is that my family has often been included as well – my wife and daughter and even brother-in-law have been at several events with me.

I couldn’t possibly list everyone I’ve met thru SLP and am very thankful for it -
You guys (that’s the editorial guys, which includes girls) know who you are – I don’t want to hurt feelings if I try to list names and leave some one out.

I still plan on being around the boards – probably SSOA the most. If anyone wants me, page me here.

I’m looking at jobs in the auto industry here in the Detroit area, but I have possible positions in several states far away. Just depends who offers what!

and now I'm out of a job too, your alter ego. [Wink]

best of luck my good friend.

I've been laid off twice in my life, once (well,
several times between '74 and '76) and again in '79.

In both cases the jobs I got afterward were better than the ones I had. It's painful, but
good will come from it.

Good luck, JeffY.

BTW, did SLP adjust the aim of the headlights on
Bilstein equipped cars? I posted this question the
day the board died, so I never saw if there was
a response.

It was great meeting you in person finally at Skyline. Most of us appreciated and enjoyed your attendance........and you ruined my engine bay as well....... [Wink]

However, you did orchestrate an awefully mean joke on Dragan......... [Big Grin]

Good luck with your future endeavors and hopefully we'll see you at future events. [Cool]

Rats, I didn't get "All Corvettes Are Red" or the hood of our car autographed. [Mad] Had we thought of it earlier, we'd have asked everyone at SLP sign under the hood of the '98 Durability Car before it was shipped to us. [Roll Eyes]

DON'T be a stranger around here...

We need someone who can give direct answers in as few words possible. [Wink]

Best of luck to you and have fun on your next Engineering adventure.

Best of luck JeffY. Any of those job prospects out West?

I am saddened that I missed my chance to meet you and Dave...I was so close, but as you recall, I kind a screwed up my calender and showed up at the last West Coast SLP CAD one day too late! A mistake that is now even heavier on my heart.

I know most will agree, but I say this for myslef. I am still a loyal SLP customer. I wish them the best and hope that someday Scott wil be back knoking on the ENG door, "So do you guys think you can get JeffY back for this project?"

I'll miss the dancing penguins avatar and I'll miss trying to get you to respond with more than three words.

Best of luck my friend.

SSHEETS

P.S. I'll never forget your help with my CME.

JeffY I am sorry that I personally didn't get the chance to meet you in person or for that matter to really get to know you well here in the SSOA but I want to let you know that I and many others here are very greatful for what you have done at SLP and with the F-Body and Corvette.

I want to thank you for all you have done and am glad you had a hand with the SS and WS6 Programs for these fine cars. I am very proud to own a 35th Anniversary LE and truly love the car.

Good Luck in all you do and hope you will keep in touch here in the SSOA. Best wishes to you. [Big Grin] [Cool]

I regret never having met you in person as well. I always enjoyed your posts on the old board, especially when I first started lurking around over there, thinking "Who is this guy???" Took a few weeks of reading to be able to catch the subtlety on your responses.

It is nice to know that there are still a few "car guys" that are working on building cars. Best wishes for your future endeavors. [Cool]

Well now Jeff,

You certainly had a good run at GM and then at
SLP. We all owe a great big thank you to you
and the folks at SLP for the F Body work. You
took a good car and made it better. Yes it was
a job for you, but also a passion, and that's
what showed. That's why you were up all night
scanning boards - you loved it! That passion
spilled over into the work at SLP Engineering.
Everything had to be OEM perfect, and in fact,
most times was better than OEM. Check the paint
on the SLP parts compared to the OEM finish!

Now, we move on. I refuse to say good bye as I
now we'll meet again. My house, Skyline, maybe
even Bowling Green this year - you might have the
time now [Wink] Your auto stories entertained us, and
your knowledge educated us. We'll never forget
your input into the SS and Firehawk program.

My friend, you're welcome at my home anytime.

My best wishes for whatever life brings you, kinda scary but exciting at the same time. Please
drop in and keep us informed whats happening in
the world of Jeff Y.

Your friend,

Brian.

Jeff, there is no way I can put into words how much you have helped Mary and I over the past few years. As a "newbie" a few years ago your answers to our questions were always honest and to the point, and very helpful. I hope tha I can meet you again in the future just to say thanks in person.

Thanks for everything,Jeff. Mostly, I'd like to thank you for being my first person-to-person contact at SLP which led to the unlikely building of my car. Thanks to to you and the rest of the SLPENG staff I have a better car story than I ever expected. My job of 6 years evaporated in March so I have starting-over in common with you. Hi there!
We've never met, but I sure have read all your posts. We all know there were, from time to time, poiltical restraints, but you always worked hard at honesty with the SS and 'Hawk owners and drivers. We appreciate that.
Maybe there's another SLP-like creating in your future, who knows.
I hope the trail is a happy and fulfilling one for you.
Good Luck!

Jeff.....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.......... for everything you did to advance the state of the art with our Camaros and Firebirds. I am really sorry to hear this news and I wish you sucess in your future endeavors. I hope our paths cross one of these days because I really would like to meet you in person.

From one "old guy" to another, I wish you the best!

Posted by FireChicken (Member # 2067) on :

Jeff: Although we have never met in person, I feel like I know you as I would an old friend. You have often provided me with advice that no one else could give, and you were always a cool guy, even when a bit sarcastic. However, in true parting style, I have a few other bullet points.

1. I hope that your semi-retirement will keep you on the boards enough to pop in and answer questions, or poke fun, because we all know how bored the board would be without you here to set us straight on our ways. Between here, Kaveman's asylum, and the fbodyowners board, we hope you wont be a stranger.

2. I hope you also find time for yourself to relax, and enjoy the wonderful world of consulting. If you have to do that kind of work, I cant think of a better company than SLP.

3. I still think the funniest thing you ever said was about your degree in aerospace engineering, about thinking that man was not meant to fly.

4. Thank you for all the technical questions, incessant as they may have been, that you answered for me and many others here on the board.

5. I always knew you were one of the night mods, and suspected that it was you who closed down our monster 800 post "memebers" thread. I couldnt think of a better mod to be own3d by. [Smile]

And finally, Jeff. Good luck in your future ventures, I hope they go well for you. I also hope you find a job in the fine tradition of your positions at GM and SLP, something with hot cars, that you enjoy.

But one final question, something that you, Dave, and none of the others ever commented on. I would like to know what you think of the custom firebird centercaps that I designed and built???

As we say down here in Texas: Keep your eyes open, and watch for rattlesnakes.

Oh, and if you might wanna pay attention to the college level SAE formula racing events over the next few years. You might recognize an old acquaintance on the racing team in the next few years from Texas A&M. I'll be graduating with my BSME before too long, and the senior design classes get to design the new car. Bwahahahahaha.
