Here's a preliminary report on an idea I got from someone over at LS1 Tech.
I have been trying to quiet my GMMG down a little from the LTs and high flow cats. I tried a bullet but although quieter, it still had a very flat "rap" to it under acceleration rather than a nice "rum". I had stainless works make me a 3" core chambered section for the I pipe which helped more but it was still a bit flat on WOT.
The idea was to insert the Car Chemistry "CC Inserts" in the exhaust and the results are quite amazing. They are made to go in right after the collectors on header cars in place of mufflers, but if you have cats, they have to go behind. I spoke to car chmistry and they said in the pipe right after the Y should work fine. I just got finished installing them and although I haven't taken it on the open road to check "pull" the sound is quite a bit quieter and the rap is gone.

Interesting tip! As the guy on LS1-Tech says "I would love to hear a Loudmouth with this insert in the resonator.", the same goes for me. Maybe it will kill the drone if I put a 4" two-disc CC insert inside the resonator???
I love the sound of my LoudMouth and I want to keep it sounding the way it does, it's just that it gets a little tiring on long drives at highway speeds around 85mph.

This insert will definitely eliminate your drone. I think the loudmouth pipe is 3" but either way, it has a dramatic effect on rasp and drone. It's a little pricey at $50 but well worth it to get the right tone out of your exhaust.

I was thinking I'd cut up the resonator and put the 4" insert inside it but maybe that's just stupid I guess it's way easier to just slide a 3" insert in before the resonator. That way I can easily take it out again if I for some reason wouldn't like how it turns out. Too bad I've promised my girlfriend that I weren't gonna buy any more parts for the SS this year. I better get down on my knees and start begging Posted by DaddySS (Member # 848) on :

Well, it's $45 from Summit, so perhaps not too much begging and the install is very easy. I would just insert it in the I pipe right where it connects to the Y. I think your girlfreind will be happy enough with the results that all will be forgiven. Posted by Mark IXZD 150 (Member # 235) on :
I had the same problem. I was running my SLP Lt headers through the cats, a loudmouth catback and the quad tips. It was baaaaaaaad sounding. Just too loud.
The fix was to cut out the resonator and replace it with a Borla XR-1 muffler. Sounds great now!

Have you heard the dynomax bullet? How different is the borla from that?

The Borla isn't a bullet muffler. It's a small race muffler. I have no idea what the sound difference would be. My guess is that the muffler would make it a bit deeper sounding.

Understood, but what are the internals like - is it straight through design?

You can look right through the Borla muffler but there's a curved piece of perforated metal in it running lengthwise that barely looks like it would do anything at all. Perhaps the shape of the chamber itself makes the difference.

I'm getting ready to order a 3" insert I can't decide if I should go with a 2-disc or a 3-disc though. I've just got a LoudMouth and thats it, the rest of the exhaust is stock.
I e-mailed Ken at Car Chemistry about shipping costs and he said this "The only recommendation I have would be to order the 3 Disk unit, although you may not need the 3 Disk, it's nice to have just in case."
2 or 3 disc, that's the question. Which one should i go for Posted by DaddySS (Member # 848) on :
I think the 2 disc unit will be fine. If you want to play it extra safe - get the three and if it's too quiet pull it back out and remove one disc. That'll be extra work though. You might also look at it this way - which way do want to err - on the quiet or the loud side. If it's the quiet side, get the three, if it's loud, get the two.

Better go with the 2 disc unit then I like how it sounds now... minus the drone.

I had the same......Liked the sound /minus the drone.
Had some plates made for the LM tip. Have an extra if you would like one shoot me an email. They are made for the single tip though.
