My computer crashed this weekend, so i formatted all the drives and rebooted the computer with Windows 98 SE. Originally I had the Win 98 upgrade on my Win 95 operating system. I have a Diamond Fire 1000 GL pro video card and I need the Win 98 driver. Diamond has since gone out of business -- my dell is pretty old! I downloaded a driver that gives me 256 colors...but that isn't good enough.Any thoughts? I've looked everywhere on the net. Thanks!

hope this helps you... I'll look for a driver just in case
SYMPTOMS After you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition with a Diamond Fire GL 1000 video adapter installed, the video adapter may be listed as a standard video adapter in Device Manager. CAUSE This issue can occur if the Diamond video information (.inf) file is not copied into the Windows\Inf folder during Setup. If the .inf file is not copied into the Windows\Inf folder, the Diamond Fire GL 1000 video adapter is not detected correctly. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, use the Add New Hardware wizard to detect the Diamond Fire GL 1000 video adapter:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add New Hardware. 3. Click Next, and then click Next. 4. Click Yes (Recommended), and then click Next. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Thanks DarkSde. Actually, that is the driver I am currently using. I just can't figure out why that drier only gives me 256 colors. Any thoughts?

Check the monitor driver. There are certain "default" drivers that are installed that limit to 256 colors, sounds like you need to choose a different driver.

Thanks Mike. I gave it a shot, but it said i had the most updated monitor driver. When I go to update the video driver, it finds something, but it keeps telling me to insert a disc I do not have. Can I bypass this step? Thanks! Mark

what disk is it asking for?
f it's asking for the diamond driver disk and you have downloaded the drivers, point it to that location.

thanks Kevin A. But it is asking for a Windows 95 disc. I tried it, but it didn't work. I've given up, just going to stick with grainy pics.
