That's ok... I have fun with these people when they use my phone as a tool to "get into my house" and try to sell me things.

That's fun when you have time, but it's till a nuisance just to go answer the phone when you're doing something.
Caller ID helps, I usually don't answer if the number is blocked.
I have had a few good laughs when putting my six year old daughter on the line..."Honey, this nice lady want's to talk to you." "Ok daddy. Harrow..."
They say the best thing to do is string them on as long as you can and then don't buy anything. If you simply hang up they just dial the next number, you're actually doing them a favor by being efficient.
I also heard that Sear's reps can not hang up on you. You must hang up on them!! (Good one to give to the kids)

If i ever get a call, I say hello...let them start rambling and just lay the phoen someplace, and then come back 5 minutes later adn hang it up. Doesn't waste my time, wastes theirs. I know it's their living but hey, I could never do that.
Also, PA has a do not call list. I wonder if that is now defective now as well. It was working great actually! Hope PA can keep their list!!

With an unlisted number for 20 years I dont get alot of calls from this type of SCUM.

I've found an unlisted number works pretty well, except the phone company is required to hand it out to other phone comapnies.

My home phone # has been unlisted for several years and ever since we started getting several different phone companies,I have been getting the calls.I should call my phone company and remove the "Unlisted Phone #" that I pay extra for each month. I ditched my landline and went cellular. I don't give it out (treat it like an unlisted #). I get zero telemarketer calls.
When I did have a landline, I used the NYS do not call registry and it worked well.

New Jersey is supposed to be implementing a "Do Not Call" list in early 2004. This list will be much stricter than the federal one, eliminating many of the loopholes in the federal law.

I have an unlisted number but they still called. They bypass the Caller ID by blocking their number but in NJ we can add Call-Intercept. This is great, and requires anyone with a blocked number to either say their name or enter a secret code (for friends and family) or they receive a recorded message stating the number they called does not accept blocked numbers. If they do follow the procedure it identifies them with a unique ring. I use to receive as many as 10 a day until Call-Intercept, now if I receive 1 a month it's a lot. I consider it five dollars per month well spent.

I absolutely won't take telemarketer calls. As soon as it is evident, that a TM is on the phone I say........STOP YOUR CALL AND REMOVE ME FROM YOUR T.M. LIST". If you don't do that, and you string the people on or even refuse their service or product, your name gets thrown back into their queue anyway and eventually you get another call.
But doing away with the DO NOT CALL LIST is bad news as far as I am concerned.

The SCUM already found a way . All they do is have you take a comparison test between products. In fine print you agree that they can put you on a list to have others call you .

This will pass, regardless of what the Telemarketers want. We have a no-call list here in Colorado and it works perfectly.
Every once in a long while we get a call from an out of state TM and we mention that we're in Colorado and on the list. They immediately start apologizing and back-pedaling. It's such a good feeling.
To quote Colorado's Attorney Genereal (who sponsored our no-call list) when the Telemarketers tried to block the list in court -- "Bring 'em on ..."
