In honour of your Avitar - I'll be heading home soon to have a nice tall Glenlivit on the rocks.
Care to join me?

Well, I might - depends upon which Glenlivit. I'm not that partial to the standard 12 Year Old, but I recently had the 18 Year Old and that was pretty good. As an alternative, might I interest you in a Glenmorangie Port Wood 12 Year Old, or an Auchentoshin 10 Year Old, or possibly a Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 Year Old?

Bahhh... I'll take my Taylor 30 year old tawny port over scotch anyday.

I may try the Johnnie Walker Blue Lable. One blend I've never tried. Oops wife is yelling gotta go to dinner!

I'd settle for warm beer right now. Still stuck in work. Yikes, working for a living is hard!

I'm down for that - Glenfiddich I have, Glenmorangie I've tried, but I was really surprised by a Chivas Regal the other day. I think it was 25 year old - but kinda dear at $150.00 per bottle for an every day drink. I also have a Cardhu Single that I don't really care for. There's a pub downtown that specializes in single malts. One of my employees and I plan on making a visit for some taste testing of some really rare ones. If I come across anything I'll let you know. Wow, I was searching for something else, came across this, and realized that I never saw your reply.
The particular Glenfiddich I was referring to (Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 Year Old) is a lot better than the standard Glenfiddich that most bars carry, which is either a 12 year Old, or an "Ancient Reserve" with no age markings.
I have the Cardhu you mentioned, and I agree with you, it's not earth shattering. It's funny, but I first had it when we were on vacation in Mauritius: it was really good over there. But when I got a bottle for myself here in the states, it wasn't nearly as good. I wonder if they send different bottlings to different areas of the world?
I've never tasted the Chivas 25 Year Old - sounds like I'll have to try it.
Hey, do they have Johnny Walker Green up in Canada? They started test marketing it about 6 years ago - I got a chance to taste it in a Duty-Free shop in Heathrow back in 1998. (There's a whole story around that Duty-Free shop, but I'll save that for another time.) It's pretty good stuff and not too expensive. I know that it still hasn't made it's way to the US, but I've picked up bottles in the Caribbean and seen it available in some Duty-Free stores.
I'd love to be there when you and your employee do that taste testing - hmmmmmmm........wonder if I can do a road trip up north?

Hey Jim,
You're welcome here anytime - a trip to Patrick O'Ryans for some single malts would be in order!
Haven't seen the Green Label yet, I'll have to check on that! I'll be heading to Florida shortly and will check at the duty free on the way home. They sometimes have some good stuff at reasonable prices. That's where the 25 year old Chivas was. It was a very pleasant surprise to me - much fuller and smoother than the standard Chivas.
Cheers!

Well put! (although I could have some trouble with the word "medicinal" to describe Lagavulin... but then again, it's all very subjective! There are definitely certain "environmental conditions" that will allow for maximum enjoyment of this unique scothch. For whatever reason, I cannot touch the stuff in warm weather! It's gotta be cooler that 40 degrees outside! Go figure!

Elie

Now you are making me thirsty .
I need to make a trip back here to get a good bottle .
I am very partial to Macallan single malt myself. For every day consumption I have 12 year old, as 18 year old is very pricy.
Once had a taste of 25 year old Macallan. That was......quite nice. Posted by Rhode Island Red (Member # 220) on :
I still love my Dewares 12 yr old special reserve
I havent bought a bottle of anything else so I cannot compare...
Not bad hawkeye... I might just have to try some of that ...hmmm

I've got a bottle in my collection and like it better than the 12 Year Old.

And it's not nearly as expensive as the 18 year old.

That's gerat news!! You do not even want to know what the 18 year old cost in Canadian dollars. Posted by Jim Mac (Member # 113) on :

Well, in US$, it runs between $45 and $55.

12 year old Macallan runs about $65 to $70 CDN. It has been about a year since I looked at an 18 year old bottle so my memory is getting hazy, but I seem to recall it was in the order of $150 CDN. I will have to look again!!

Went to a liquor store at lunch today, they had the Macallan Cask Strength on sale for $47.95 US. The 18 Year Old (which wasn't on sale) was priced at $99.95.

Interestingly enough, in the shop I visited at lunch, they were now carrying the Johnnie Walker Green Label - first time I've seen it in the US. This shop does get some specialty stuff, so I'll have to check a couple of other stores to see if it's now available. If we can get it here, I'm sure it'll be availabe in Canada.

Didnt' see it Florida. I bought a special cask Glenlivit. A 12 year old, but sounded interesting in the blurb near the bottle. The next day I took sick and still don't think I can taste anything so I have not tried it yet.
Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to smell and taste again!

Aye, laddies. There's nothing like a snifter of scotch to chase away the chills or soothe the spirit. I prefer Dalwhinnie, myself.
