Hey folks, I washed the Firehawk on Monday and noticed a few little black spots in the hood, on the quarter panels, etc., so I decided to break out the claybar. WOW!! I was amazed at how much stuff I picked up. I ended up having to refold it 4 times.
I clay'ed the car when I took delivery back in March of 02, and not again since. To give you some perspective, the car only has about 5800 miles on it and lives in the closed garage full time unless it's being driven or the garage doors are open because I'm working on the other car or something like that. I was pretty shocked that it had picked up that much gunk. It probably has about 7 coats of Zaino on it because I don't wash it that often. How frequently do you guys clay your car? Just curious...

I clay mine usually twice a year, adn mine is a daily driver all 365 days of the year. I usually add a coat of Zaino everytime I wash the car (averages once a week, or every other week). I'm pretty happy with the results, having it for 2 years and almost 28,000 miles on it!

Full claying twice a year here as well, and a light claying of any areas that I notice may need it in between.

Another think i remembered. A good hint is if you're washing the car and an area doesn't feel smooth, while teh car is all soapy, I wil run the claybar over. I usually clay the SS in the spring (after all the winter crap goes away) and in the fall (to get off all the bugs etc from summer). Usually a clay bar can last 4 times for me, but depends on your car. Posted by 35TH ED/ed (Member # 1709) on :
Have never used a clay bar. In the spring I will use a good cleaner before I put a coat of polish and then wax over it.
Have not talked to anybody that has used the claybar over the 35TH stripes and WILL not take the advice of one of the manafactures that it wont cause any problems to the stripes.

Ed, I clayed around the stripes. I doubt it would hurt, but like you, I didn't want to take that risk.

As long as you have them 'lubed' with soapy water it wont hurt at all. Probably even take some contaminents out of them as well, but we all know Glenn's 30th adn 35th are Trailor Queens
