Just curious what everybody's mpg is on their cars. Highway? City? Combined?
Just figured out what my 68 did on the BG trip. Looks like the average was 20.9. A good portion of the time the A/C was on, and man, did we have a headwind coming back through a few of the states. My worst mileage was (its Art's fault!) 12.77 during the auto-x and around the show area. My best was 25.49 heading east through Wyoming.
It took 262.7 gallons of fuel for the trip, and a total of 5600 miles. Total cost for the fuel = $480.06.
BTW, I averaged about 6.5-7mpg at the track day about a week ago!!

best I've done on a full tank to empty was BG last year. Cruise on, AC on, 6th gear, got 27 mpg.
I use the trip odometer and reset it at each fillup. I average 21-22 mpg.
I'd say the GM Powertrain crew did a good job. Posted by chrisL (Member # 97) on :

I am usually around 20 MPG with a mix of city/highway driving. On the highway, I run into a lot of bumper to bumper traffic which kills my MPG.
The best I ever did was to SLP Day in Vegas last year. I averaged 25 MPG for the entire trip including racing and driving at at least 80 most of the way there and back. Only had to fill up twice! Posted by Hawkeye (Member # 88) on :
dunno - never checked - I fill up when I hit a quarter tank. No help here! But.. the LS1 does seem to be the best compromise betweeen fuel mileage and power - that I know!

I drive about 80-90% on teh highway adn average about 25-57mpg
The best I did was my trip down to Tennessee where I just about hit 30mpg!
No complaints here! People are very surprised when I tell them my mpg. Posted by Big A (Member # 1761) on :
In my 02 M6 SS the best I've done on the highway is 29 MPG. If I play with it I'm lucky to get 15 MPG.
In my daily driver, 02 Auto Z28, I average 20 MPG in heavy traffic. The best I've seen is 25 MPG with no traffic on the highway. Please don't tell me there's no difference between the Z28 and the SS.
I enjoy both cars because I grew up with V8 cars and as long as I can afford to put gas in them I don't care about gas milage.
My last daily driver was a 97 SW2 Saturn with a large four banger. I was lucky to get 33 MPG on the highway and it sure was slow, no pickup. To get on the highway I used to floor it to get it moving. I used to drive alot for work and it was VERY reliable.

my average in the city is about 15-18 MPG. the hwy back from BG last year i had a best of 30.6 MPG. with city/hwy combined i average about 20-22 MPG.

I got 31 MPG once. Drove for hours at 60 in 6Th. I average about 25 in the SS and about 22 in the Z06 (I can't resist the go pedal in the Z06).
At my last track day (in the Z06) on one run I got 3MPG!! It is a short course and the revs stay high.
Then I averaged 27MPG driving home. Amazing cars.

My 01 Company Car got 28 all the time.... but I did mostly highway miles.... I don't drive the 02 enough... but 20 isn't bad considering the areodynamics or lack of that the 68 has.... plus I doubt your "mild" cam helps much. I would also be currious what a 4th gen weighs compared to a 1st gen.....

Ive only been on one "long" trip since Ive owned my 02 LE SS. With me, my fiance, my daughter, and loaded to the gills with luggage and wedding crap I got 28 mpg.
I love this car.. 344whp.. 28mpg.. 13.1 1/4m on street tires stock... doesnt get much better then this.

With my 02 SS M6 I got a best of 29.5 on one tank going to Bowling Green last June, average for the trip was 26 something. Going back and forth to work I get about 19.5, going to work is a 14 mile mix of highway and stop and go.

Hhhhm, ...sort of like Hawkeye, ...never really tried calculating it. I DO know however that on both trips to Bowling Green, I was always first needing to refuel. Seems evident that if the top goes down (even if it's up ) the gas mileage goes down too. ,,,No matter what the mileage, ...they are fun to drive Posted by 35TH ED/ed (Member # 1709) on :
Get about 21 around the city ,that is with about 25% on the e-way.
Going to BG this year I got a litle over 30 T-Tops off about 70 mph and no air Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
With my bone stock automatic convertible,I get around 26 hiway and 21 city.I usually drive it easy as I can. After the NEOCC Fall Classic Show,we had to leave the 1979 Camaro in Akron,Oh.,and lost several hours of time,I drove back at an average of 85mph and still got around 23 hiway with the car now extra loaded with stuff that would have been in the 1979 and another person. I have gone from Niagara Falls,Ont. to home and still had more than a 1/4 tank left.Same when I drove home from the Brickyard 400 race.I did have the a/c on too.Gotta love the LS1! Thats about what I figured!!
I think for my "brick-shaped" car, and the fact that we had it loaded for a year on the road (!!) I think it did very well. BTW, it has 3.42 gears, and the aftermarket T-56, which only has a .62 overdrive in 6th, compared to a stock T-56 which has .5 in 6th. Most of our trip was at about an 80-85mph average, and quite a few stints for long periods (hours at a time) at around 100. Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :

Could the difference be in the Auto vs. M6?
The other line of thinking is no two cars come off the line exactly the same....you might just have a good one and a better one.

@ 58,000 miles 20.5 mpg overall average 24-25 mpg "normal" highway 14-15 mpg combined city/autox
I have a tank by tank spreadsheet if you want more details.
As an aside our Envoy has an overall average of 14.8

19.98 average since I've had it. It seems to be getting worse lately...since I don't drive it as often, I tend to drive more aggressively when I do It averaged 25.46 to BG last year with an all-time best of 30.3 between Watkins, CO and Colby, KS.

No help here! As mentioned on another board, after owning it for about 2 yrs. I finally checked the milage. It was only 11 mpg, all city driving, with no lights, codes, or out of spec. parameters. Had Chevy reflash the PCM and replaced the plugs and wires. Went to 13 mpg. After 3 tankfuls it's back to 12 mpg. I've never been terribly concerned about gas milage in a performance car, but this is ridiculous.

About 20 when I mix local and highway. When I drove cross country this summer, I averaged around 27 and that was at some heavy, but legal, cruising speeds. Going to FL from NJ a year ago, I got 30 MPG and couldn't believe it.

21 mpg mostly city driving for '02 LE convertible... about two-and-a-half tankfuls per year at the rate I'm driving it... just turned 2,000 miles on the odometer last week... performance when you want it.... economy when you need it... gotta love it !!!!

When the car was stock, the best I ever got on the highway was 32 mpg (Canadian Gallon) After the 4.10s were put in, that dropped to 30.5 mpg. These calcs were done at a 60-65 mph cruise. I calculated 3 or 4 tanks on the BG trip and managed 28.2 - 28.5 mpg (CDN again) with ported heads 224/224 114LSA cam, SLP LT headers and Random Tech Hi-Flow cats, custom tuning, lid, ported TB, stock MAF, K&N and the cutout closed on the dual-dual. These calcs were done at 70-75 mph. The car also passed the Ontario sniffer test last month with flying colours! (a friend with basically the same setup but with a 224/224 112 LSA cam)flunked that test . My 3.8 L67 supercharged Bonneville SE with a 9" K&N open cone and 3.5" SLP blower pulley gets about the same mileage on the hwy and does a bit better in the city (if I keep my foot out of it!). That car also runs 14.57 @ 98.0x in the quarter.
Best regardSS,
Elie

I average about 22-23 mpg, just running around and playing a little. Last year on my trip to SuperFest in Ann Arbor,MI I got 31 mpg. That was anew high. That was after it was tuned up. F/A ratio and timing.

Haven't really checked the MPG on the SS, but I'm averaging about 120 "Miles per Month". Don't get to drive it much since picking it up in Jan '02. Only have about 2800 miles on it now.
My '70 Z got exactly 20mpg on the hwy last Oct when I took it to Super Chevy, and in June to Camaros @ Carlisle, but I only get around 10-12 mpg with it around town. Mostly short trips to cruise-ins or shows.
