Second off, Shirleen Holland from Ford came to A&M this evening to speak to our SAE organization about some of the technical development that Ford is going through with their engineering staff. Very interesting stuff. After her talk, I introduced myself, and we spoke for a bit, had a very interesting conversation. I mentioned that I was a car afficionado, and mentioned that I knew you via messageboards and emails. She recognized your name as having worked with SLP, because she was one of the Ford Ranger engineering heads when SLP kicked around the Thunderbolt idea. I hope that you dont mind me dropping your name, but I thought it was kind of interesting how small a world it really is.
Im also interested in an internship with Ford for this summer, and she seemed to like my resume and experience (evidently, experience is very important to Ford when it comes to hiring), so I may get a chance to meet all you Michigan folks next summer.
Also, my involvement with SAE is fun, and going strong. I would like to go to the SAE Formula competition in the spring, and Im hoping for a chance to try out for a driving position for the autocross event. If Im there, and a driver, it would be great to see some of you old friends and acquaintances come out and support your friendly neighborhood chicken.
BTW: Havent been around much lately, been busy with school. How have all of you been? Anyone in here been displaced by the wildfires in california? Drop in, post up, and lemme know how all my old buddies are doing! Missed some of you peeps while ive been away on sabbatical.

Yup, remember her well! She was Chief Ranger Engineer for a short time-seemed like Ford had her in different spots to give her lots of experience for other things.

Hey Chicken Dude.....that would be great if you could intern for Ford. Could be a good way to break into the auto industry when you get your degree.

Yeah, now she is now in a North American engineering leader position with the body group for Ford. Very nice lady, and very knowledgable too. I thought it was was very interesting that people I met from the message board might turn out to be a valuable networking resource for internship and co-op opportunities. Who knew???
BTW: how is your new job going? enjoying yourself?

SSCarguy: Yes, I think it would be interesting to work in the automotive industry, I think my primary interests are in body engineering and vehicle engineering, rather than powertrain or suspension (but what do you expect from a custom trim-part designer/manufacturer???), but truthfully, I have a lot of reservation about going to work outside of Texas. I have a great deal of difficulty seeing myself spending all of my post-college life living somewhere else. Oh well, I'll figure something out when I get there. However, Im also trying to get an internship position with Stewart and Stevenson's Tactical Vehicle Systems Division. They build the big army cargo trucks, and are working on producing a series of wheel-based chassis (as opposed to tracked and half-tracked) vehicles for multiple applications, including howitzer, multiple-launch-rocket-system, command-and-control, etc. And they are about an hour west of Houston.
And we all know how much I love military technology...
