Ok. I think i would like to get a cam so i can have a fuller, richer sound. As in some lope and well, basically have it sound a little meaner. I am not sure what to get. im not really concerned with racing, but pulling into a cruise in or show, and having it sound mean is more important. what i have so far is: SLP Lid, Free Mods, SLP Y-pipe, No cats w/O2 sims, FlowMaster, DiabloSport Preditor. Anyone got some ideas? like i said, Im going more for the "muscle sound" without having to do all the fuel upgrade and head stuff. Trying to do it cheap..

Hot Cam will do all for you. May not be the most performance cam, but it will sound mean. Posted by RHT (Member # 902) on :
I agree! The GM Hot Cam will give you lot's of lope. They are relatively inexpensive too. I think it is the best choice if sound is most important.
You will likely need to drill your TB to get a smooth idle. It needs more air with the cam. Tuning is a good idea but you can get by without it if you want.

I assume you mean the LS1 Hot Cam? Anyone know the GM part number for it? Since I'm a service manager at a Chevy Dealership, hopefully, I can get this at a nice price.. Is there anything else I will need to get with that cam? Approx time to install cam? and most importantly, will i have to pull the motor to install it?
Im guessing the right Hotcam is this one "218/227 .525/.525 112" GM Part number 12480033
Thanks for all the help guys!
P.S. Here is a vid w/sound of a hot cam.. This is what im hoping i will get. HOT CAM SOUND

Yeah but....that car is a Trans Am, so if you want that sound you'll have to get a Trans Am
I think that in order to get the "full" benefit of the cam sound you may also need a set of headers (preferably long tubes).

How does the hotcam do on emissions testing?
Posted by SS 891 (Member # 1968) on :
From what i understand, it will still pass, provided you still have your cats obviously. I heard with a little tuning, all will be ok, others I have read about on ls1.com say they have done no tuning and have passed.

Congrats...You will love the sound and the increased hp won't be to bad either.
Enjoy and welcome to the "cammed" group.

You will get two answers on that one no matter what. I feel, while your in there, upgrade to prevent any bent ones in the future. Others will tell you its better to bend a pushrod then a valve, but my thery is, if you miss a shift, and float the valves, you'll still mess up a valve. So my .02 is yes.

Hopefully my A4 wont miss a shift.. heh
Thanks for the info.. any ideas on which ones would be what i would need? Hopefully you have a GM set in mind...

Well since its an A4, DOH, You could skip the pushrods I guess. Don't know any GM ones and I don't know if the LS6 has harder ones or not. I got mine from Thunder Racing.
Does that hot cam come with springs? I thought it did.
