OK..I didn't think winter was gonna come this fast. I'm looking to put on my winter tires to the SS by myself. I have The 16x8 Firebird take-offs from SLP and have the Firestone Winterfires on them. Just going to do one tire at a time. What spacer to i exactly need since they are a more narrow wheel. Also, is there anything special I need to know about putting them on? I'm no mechanic by far. There used to be info on SLP's board, but thats no longer there. Thanks ya'll!

I would not think you would need any wheel spacers for a 16"X 8" from a 1998-up Firebird wheel. The brake calipers should be very simular if not the same and clearance should not be an issue. [Smile]

Alrighty..I was under the impression that i needed spacers since so they would come out just as far as the 10-spokes, I guess they will just be a little bit further intot he wheel well. Last year the dealer put them in and I think they put spacers. Will leaving spacer out affect handling, etc? ( Yes, I know I will lose a lot so as it is with the skinnier tires.)

If I dont need to get them, then I guess I better do it tonight.

Shouldn't need spacers and the wheels tucked in a little reduces the amount of crud that sandblasts the rockers.

Torque 'em to 100 ft/lbs ...that's alledgedly important to help keep the rotors straight.

Alrighty then! No spacers. I'll see if I can get them on tonight. It's so depressing putting my winter wheels on the SS. [Frown] Ah well. Lets hope all goes well with the wheel swap!

Whew! Got the tires switched. Took 1 1/2 hours, first time ever doing it, PLUS i had to use the spare tire jack. What a PITA!! Took it for a test drive and everything seems normal. Now bring on the SNOW!!! [Big Grin]

What poSSum said - hope you used a quality
torque wrench at 100lbs.
