We've been discussing it off and on for a while now. Today I surprised my wife with a trip to a pet adoption facility... Needless to say, it wasn't long before we fell in love with this little guy. I'm bringing our current dog 'Chevy' to visit with him tomorrow to see how they get along.

Maybe you all can help us with a name. We don't want anything typical but do need one that suits his dogality (personality). He's very sweet, quiet and has pretty calm disposition for a puppy but loves to play with a ball. Being a puppy, he's a bit of a goof. He's a 6 month old Lab mix who was actually found as a stray - the nerve! So far we have the following:

Dufus
Cooper
Caesar
Moe
Bowser
Dawgy
Luther

We are also going to meet this little gal tomorrow. She was with her foster family today but the picture is so cute we just couldn't count her out as a possibility. She's a 4 month old Australian Shepard/Boxer mix. We'll see...

The more I look at that picture, the more I think that he's half Lab and maybe half Pitbull. The people at the shelter weren't sure. Anyone else see that in him?

The shape of his head and his muscle structure has me thinking that he's not all Lab. The shelter probably knows what he is, but they also know they won't get as many responses to a Pitbull listing if that's part of his bloodline.

Pit bull was kinda what I initially thought from the shape of the head and muscle tone in the chest. That little girl sure is a cutie too though! Good luck with whichever you choose, and good for you on going the shelter/rescue route!

How about "Lugnut"? That's kinda a name for a big, loveable goof, yet car related.

Meet Cosmo! [Big Grin] He's a 4 month old Lab mix who's entire litter was left abandoned in front of a pet store. [Frown] The shelter's records showed that his other half was Coon Hound... but I don't think so. Do Coon Hounds have purple tongues? We think his other half may be Chow Chow because his tongue is dark purple and his eyebrows are very Chow looking. Either way, he's extremely cute and is very good. So far - no accidents in the house.

How we ended up with him is a pretty good story... On the way to the adoption facility we went to a fostering kennel with our current dog Chevy (he wanted to help pick) to pick up Emily and take her back to the adoption center where we would eventually make our choice. When we got there they brought this little guy up and asked if we would mind transporting him while we were at it. They're strictly volunteer and he needed a lift... We fell in love with him right there. He was sooooo good in the car that we couldn't believe he was a puppy. He even took a nap while the other female puppy (Emily) and Chevy were a bit obnoxious. At the adoption facility we spent a couple hours with them all and just couldn't pass this little guy up. His tecnique was to pay attention to us a little bit too, which worked. The other dogs played amongst themselves and ignored us most of the time. It's been a tad hectic at home now getting our current dog used to him. He's been the King of the house for five years but is ajusting very quickly. They're both taking a nap on the floor behind me as I type this. They're pooped!

The purple tongue is definitely Chow. You can also see it in him by his ears and the shape of the nose. He's cute.

Looks like you made a nice choice. I like his inquisitive look. [Cool]

UPDATE:

Amazing... This pup must be from another planet (Pluto?). He hasn't grabbed anything other than a toy to chew on. He's had no accidents in the house or his kennel. He didn't make a single sound last night when put into his kennel (what a relief). He's a good outdoor pee'er and pooper and he's learning his name when called and to "sit". All at only 4 months old. I guess he can stay... [Smile]

My Sharpei that I had also had a purple tongue.According to the AKC, that is one of the features needed for a show dog Sharpei. [Smile]
