I know it's U71 but when you tell a paint shop that, they tell me it's something else and they can't cross it.
I want to get a quart of SOM so I can paint a few small things on the car for the 2004 Car Show season.
Are there other codes out there for SOM?

Bill,on the RPO sticker on the driver's door jamb at the very bottom is the paint code for your S.O.M. SS. It will have a BC/CC(basecoat/clearcoat)next to the number and the paint code may have a letter then 4 numbers.
Here is an example Posted by CamaroSCG (Member # 1591) on :
SOM=71U paint code I got 3 cans of spray paint (8oz. cans)from GM for about $18. If a shop mixes it, wouldn't it come down to how well they can match the color? GM might sell it by the qt. edit- OK, this must be it. On both the touch-up bottle and the spray cans, there is the code WA633H.

GM is not in the business of selling paint... the touch up tubes and spray cans are made by dupli-color. The reason for paint codes is so any paint manf. out there can duplicate a color... Now most good shops use computers to mix up the paint so its fairly idiot proof... the hard part espically with metallics is matching them when you paint something... plus on a car that is older or seen some sun you have to tint it to match the faded stuff... thats the fun part.

I picked up my paint and supplies yesterday.
1 Quart SOM Paint 1 Quart Reducer for paint 1 Quart Clear Coat 1 Quart Hardener for clear
Total was $101.37
The paint alone was $60.00!!! Red and orange paint is the most expensive because of the pigment.
One thing I found out was after they made the paint and showed me, it looked more red. I asked them why and they said it needs to be on the mixer/shaker longer. They put it back on for another 10 minutes and then it looked like SOM.
My guess is that you really have to mix up the metallic particles in the paint to be consistant.
They also told me once I add the reducer (1-1), the color comes out more.
