I was talking to my wife about attending Bowling Green in 2004, as we missed the 2003 event due to scheduling conflicts.

One thing she brought up to me made a lot of sense. She said one of the things that excited her quite a bit about making the gathering was the fact that she had never been to Bowling Green, let alone Kentucky. This made the trip extra exciting.

A good point she brought up is whether some people might be hesitant to go to a repeat event when it's in the same location year after year?

Obviously there are those of us that like things a certain way.. but she does have a point when considering that one of the neatest things about Bowling Green 2002 for us was the visit of the Corvette plant and Corvette museum. While I am sure the plant will have some different things to see year-to-year.. it is definately a fact that a same locale each year will become stale after awhile.

Some people's answer to this will be... there are plenty of other events around the country you can attend that are not in Bowling Green.. and while I agree, sadly, its not the event where the SSOA as a large contributor of patrons attends.

So I guess my plans and hopes are to make Bowling Green this year.. because I want to see everyone, but just wanted to throw out a concept for maybe a future year to have a major SSOA event located somewhere else?

I made the first F-Body Gathering in Atlanta.. but haven't returned because... "I did that."

Just my thoughts and wondered if anyone else had the same thoughts.. One thing I have heard from people is that the average person can usually only afford to take one f-body related road trip (of distance) per year...

Happy New Year!

I kinda agree with you, although it's nice to have an "annual gathering" in the same place, maybe TWO gatherings in addition to Bowling Green; one for the East Half and one for the West Half of the country. Nonetheless, I really hope I can get to Bowling Green for 2004, as it will be my first trip. And would like to meet a bunch of you! I've only met a few from carlisle car show, and PA area in general. Just my 1 cent input. [Smile]

Hope to do Skyline Drive in May. While it's not
an official SSOA event, there are quite a few of us that attend. Very relaxed atmosphere. I've been
3 times and am looking forward to #4!

OMG....I just got done typing out a looooong response, previewed it, looked good, went to post it, and POOF! Topic does not exist (it was moved from F-body chat forum to the Back Porch). AAAAAAAAARGH! Then I couldn't back up my browser to copy it because it tried to re-load the moved page, so it was lost.

[Mad] [Mad] [Mad]

Maybe I'll have time later to re-type it.

I HATE when that happens....happens also when writing emails and such [Mad]

I forgot about Skyline! I would love to attend that as well. Money pending.... [Cool]

Skyline is my one can't miss event every year. I would love to make BG too but so far I haven't been able to.

A very valid point.

Someone from the SSOA would need to step forward to head up the planning and promotion for alternate events.

I've been involved with two Bragg-Smith events, and the first SSOA Thursday and feel confident saying that these things don't "just happen".

Funny thing is, before I typed my response, I fought the urge to move the post! [Big Grin]

I pretty much typed up a long-winded version of what Art said. He has a better way of getting to the root of the matter, so I'm not so sad about losing my post now. [Cool]

Please don't think I'm against B.G. ... I just am speaking my mind about liking to try new places... that's it [Wink]

Being less than 2 hrs. from BG, I want that event to go on forever!

There was an earlier link about Skyline here and
on Kevin Allen's Firehawk board. Nothing definate
yet. My vote was for May 22, 2003 weekend. But
still waiting on the "official" word.

Regarding the Atlanta gathering, since you haven't been in while you should consider another trip. It has gotten considerably larger ( 400+ cars) and better since the first one. New location, banquet, worldwide camaro southeastern nationals car show, etc. Come on down we'd love to have you. In my opinion, it's better than Bowling Green. I've been to both more than once. ducking and running!

I do have to agree with you, I've been to two BG and 3 Carilse and 2 worldwide shows in NC in the past two years. Never been to the skyline cruz and hope to attend this year. It would be nice to have something new to go to this year for people to go to.

The club that I belong to Camaro Legends will be hosting the East Coast World Wide Camaro show in 04 in July. It'll be a new place so that should be cool and it's right near the beach and Bush Gardens. Were are going to try to get a Anniversary car gathering this year also. [Big Grin]

As i remember somebody brought up this point at BG last year. From what I recall the thought was to bring it north a little Indy was mentiomed.

This year may be to late to change but the year after would be a good possability.

I like the idea to move it around too. We brought up that idea in our meeting after the BG 2003 event, but for many various reasons, it needed to stay in BG at least for this coming year.
If somebody wants to head up something for 2005, feel free to start working on it now, as it takes a LONG time to plan something like this [Smile]

I like the idea of piggybacking an SSOA event with another F-body show, e.g. GM Nationals (Camaros) at Carlisle, or Camaro Superfest in Michigan, etc.

It would be nice to have it at Camaros at Carlisle. Since I live only 60 miles from there and I am with the American Camaro Association, which runs the show.

Thought that Indy was only about 3 or 4 hours away. BG was a little over 7 to get to.

Indy will take between 5-6 hours from my house with minimal bathroom stops.Howard Kirchenbauer just drove from Indy to my house for the Christmas Party and it took him 5 1/2 hours. It took me every bit of that coming home from the Brickyard 400.Howard drives faster than I do. [Smile]

I think there is a valid point about "been there, done that.." however.....

The National Corvette Museum does a lot of the grunt work for us. While there were a lot of things that went wrong this year (Corvette 50th really socked them, and a change in events management.....) it is still a great event that allows everyone to kick back and relax a little bit at the end of the season. (for those of you who have planned an event,I think you will concur.

Furthermore, where else can you get tours of an assembly plant, a museum tour, banquets, gokarts, drag racing, and autocross all at one event? Also, while B/G is not exactly in the center of the country, it is more centrally located than many other events.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not opposed to moving to another location....however, who wants to take on that task? And....will you get enough volunteers?
