Ok with the little debate following the commercial, what new GM vehicle are you most fired up about(minus C6, we are all)
I'm between GTO and Cts-V simply cause High output and manual trans are what I want to see.
Is there something in the ad that I'm missing

Sadly I think we all know that. Porsche even makes 4x4's these days. But as I said "exicting" and what better fits the desciption than hot rods.

Just got back from the San Diego Auto show.
GTO - finally saw it in person. Its as dull as I thought it was going to be. Looks like a Grand-Am from the front...Cavalier from the side/back. Couldn't see the interior since it was up on a turning platform.
No C6 to see - only GM car worth getting excited about...but Im not a Vette guy anyway.
XLR Caddy...nice looking...but WAY overpriced.
SSR - FUGLY...Double FUGLY. Seats were nice and comfortable though.
Other than the C6 and XLR, GMs line up is PATHETIC...its sad to see the state they've brought themselves to.
Then to compare the interiors and details of the GM cars to Hondas, Infinitis, Audis, BMWs etc... GM just doesn't stack up, they seem CHEAP and CHEESY. Ford isn't any better.
I can't believe I went to an auto show and was more impressed with the Blue oval offerings and concepts as far as styling goes.

I hit the auto show in Boston around Thanksgiving. It was really weird not seeing a Camaro in the show. They had 3 A4 Vette ragtops on display and the SSR.
The retro look of the SSR is different and not too difficult to take. However, the thing has no guts whatsoever if the performance data is accurate, and for that kind of money, I'd rather step into a Lightning or SRT-10 and not worry about getting blown off by a base Honda Civic. That's an admitted exxageration, (maybe it's really a Cavvy Z-24), but it's to illustrate a point.
The one car in the GM line-up on display that really got me excited was the Cadillac CTS-V. The one on display was Black and looked just plain mean. The XLR was up on a pedastal, so you couldn't get close. I found it a little to angular for my taste, but from what I've read, it really is a worthy competitor for the comparable Mercedes' and BMW's. Considering the target, the price is high but not out of line.
Setting aside the C-6, the one thought I walked away from the car show was that all of the excitment is coming from Cadillac these days, not Chevy. The GTO has possibilities technically, but Pontiac still doesn't get it when it comes to styling, so that one's off my list unless a major redo of the styling is done. A name with that kind of heritage deserves more than the looks of a slightly more muscular Grand Am.
I would love to see the Gen 5 Camaro. The only question I have about it is over how seriously GM will go after Ford with this car. The top model Camaro will have to at least be able to go head-to-head with the new Cobra...

You got that right. However, it'll be a hard row to hoe on that one, since I just got the new Hot Rod magazine and there, on the cover, is the NEW 2005 PRODUCTION MUSTANG GT! That thing looks very retro, yet refined. Not quite as agressive looking as the prototype, but not too far from there. Looks great, and it sports a 300 HP 4.6, 3-valve per cylinder I think? Anyway, if it runs as good as it looks, GM better start thinking pony car again.....

The problem with the stang being retro is where do they go after that. Continue and evolve the retro design. Abandon it and continue where they left off or start brand new. They better answere this quick too as retro gets old really fast. How many years do you think it can retain its freshness. Most people who are into that thing will buy one early so I don't think its a stable market.

well some people you just can't make happy GM is up and coming I think. They are finally putting better interiors in the car, and I do like the new GTO, it's not supposed to be a full out sports car and I think it will find that nitch in the market, did you know that GM scored better than some of imports. I'm very impressed with GM's new line-up. It shows me that they are trying and like I said it is a sign for us.

I think GM is doing some really good things, or so it seems, and the consumer public agrees. Despite the cosmetic appeal of the GTO (or lack therof), remember everyone, its a car being imported from Holden, and if they get good sales and marketing potential, and GM builds a sigma chassis plant to make sports cars, we may have american built gto's before too long.

I understand there were some nice pace cars there and other motorsports car. You must have missed those with the blinders on. Are you just stuck in an endless for loop? I'd say about 40 years and running....don't underestimate the Mustang. It has survived all these years. Even the all-new Corvette incorporates some of the old-days features that says it has a storied lineage. It says "look, I'm still a Corvette." And it's survived over 50 years.
I didn't say it was the best thing since sliced bread, but it looks better than the 2005 Camaro. If GM doesn't offer anything for MY niche, then someone else might. Apparently the sales numbers might suggest they have another 35 years to evolve this design.
The biggest thing is that retro or not, Mustang is still here. Ford doesn't have a standard Corvette equivalent, so there is a greater need for them to have a performance offering and they pretty much put their performance eggs in one basket. GM has it over Ford with the number of performance-oriented cars. I've said it before that although I've never before considered a Ford, if the new Mustang looked anything like the prototype, it was going to be a hit and I'm willing to take a look. Time will tell.

Why don't you just keep one post and repeat it every week. They all say the same thing. There is no question what your opinion is, it doesn't require repeating. 1.) Why don't you keep one post and post it each week...you sound the same as I do only on the other side of the fence.
2.) I went to a NEW auto show to compare vehicles objectively. GM fell short in my eyes as well as my friends eyes. Its my opinion and last time I checked, there is no rule here stating I have to have my nose stuck up GMs proverbial @ss. I am not alone in my feelings, I am sure some people agree but don't want to stand up and say something for fear of becoming "hated" like me.
3.) I don't post to get people riled up, I post what I think. I guess some people just can't handle it. I am not a conformist, I am not a suck-up, what you get from me is UNEDITED truth from my point of view. If that is "dishonorable" then I guess I am. I have plenty "to do" though, as im sure you and everyone else who comes to a message board does, so Im not sure what you meant by that comment. MMMMMert.... this happens to be a board where the GENERAL consensus of the patrons is that they like their GM offerings. Yes, we dont all agree, and some of us like other offerings as well. Its fine to point out differences and good/bad points in a helpful, friendly discussion. But as Dan points out, your continual badmouthing of GM is getting very old. I know you have a 68 Camaro, and apparently a newer one as well. So you like some of the past offerings. But while the past is great, and I LOVE the old cars as much if not more than anybody, the future matters too, along with the present. If all you have to offer is to bring down the people in the present, and slam on the future, then why dont you go over the BMW board or something else, and bother the hell out of them. I guess you just "get your rocks off" by antaganizing others. I am sure you will do the third grader type response as you did to Dans observations, and that is too bad. Actually, I have an idea. I see from a quick check that the old SLP member forum is a lot like the old SLP board. Why don't you stay there? That way you don't feel like we want to kick you out and we don't have to listem to the GM bashing that it is obvious the vast majority of us don't want to hear. Do it there and you will have an audience. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike you, I don't know you personally. But I can't stand your internet personality at all.

Just from looking at GM's line-up at the State Fair of Texas last fall, there was a gaping hole where Camaro should have been. I did enjoy looking at the Vettes, and I even glanced at the Monte Carlo and the Impala.....other than that, it just seemed like a lackluster series of offerings.
I don't know anything about the imports, nor do I care to.....I grew up with "pony" cars, and that's what excites me to this day. I also realize that I represent a very small niche of the market.
Sooooooo......all that to say that I'm a little disappointed in what's out there right now, but I'm willing to wait & see if GM can recapture the magic of its heyday.

I think the new GTO is awesome. I've always kind of liked a little bigger car than the Camaro size, but you couldn't get the big V8 RWD power in a bigger car. I still love my Camaro, but with the interior and everything, I think I like the GTO better.

To me it seams that it would be the 36th year with the 40th edition out in 2012.

Having just spent most of the last year, or so, looking at a lot of vehicles to replace my Jeep, and bouncing from wanting a 4X4, to a car, and back again, I saw and drove a lot of nice vehicles.
By 'fired up' you mean 'passionate', or 'just gotta have', I can honestly say there was no GM vehicle in the 2004/2005 line-up at the time that got me fired up. The SRX is great vehicle but priced out of my range. The Impala, Monte Carlo and CTS again are nice cars, but being a performance buff, I wanted a V8. The new Pontiacs are nice, but I hit my head on the roof when I sat in the cars. Styling is nice, but like my wife says, "they are all starting to look the same".
Having said that, there really wasn't a vehicle, in my price range, from any of the Big North American 3 that really lit my fire.
I (and I think most of us on the board) have a big handicap, that others don't have, when looking at new vehicles. We want aggressive styling, V8 performance (rear wheel drive), and a price range that we don't need to rob a bank for. I think the majority of the buying public just want to buy a car or truck having the best value for them (options, warranty, price, & utility). Impalas, Bonnevilles, 'burbs, Trailblazers, etc. light the majority of the buying public's fire. A large percentage of these people aren't passionate about their vehicles. They just want reliable transportation at an affordable monthly payment. GM is on the right track to cater to the majority (good business sense).
Would I buy one of these cars? Probably not. But then again, I'm not in the majority - I've been spoiled by driving one of the best performing and most affordable muscle/pony cars of all time.
