Some of you may remember the escapades a couple of years ago on the SLP board about my daugher complaining that I sold "her" 94 B4C out from under her.
Well I have finally succumbed and DSMC now has a 2001 SOM TransAm. I pick it up on Monday.
Am I crazy for getting such a car for an 18 year old college freshman? Posted by TimeLord (Member # 1389) on :
Yes !!!! Posted by cook_dw (Member # 2143) on :
No not crazy but I would hate to have to pay the insurance on our cars. Luckily, dad has our insurance set up in a fleet and we get a discount on insurance. Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :

I have had real mixed emotions about this. It is a lot of car for an 18 year old, but it is what she really wants. She is also paying for half of it.
Of course there are rules associated with this purchase. If grades slip or traffic tickets appear the car becomes my daily driver and the '02 SS goes in the garage with the '72 SS.

Remember ....with great power comes great responsibility.
I don't want to hear they had to scrape you and your friends off a telephone pole. Posted by HouSSton (Member # 2081) on :
Amen to that...
I know the potential is always present, but if I were sure that DSMC would abuse the power I would not be buying the car. She's a good kid and I know where she lives!

Congrats! My sister bought a 02 V6 vert the same time as I bought my SS. She was 18 at the time and I was 20 Be careful, and have fun! Posted by 01ss87iroc (Member # 1763) on :
Awesome! What a great parent. Not crazy at all...and I assume your kid isn't crazy since your giving her such a sweet, powerful ride. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

........."DAD I'M HOME Can I have a C6 "
Hopefully your next daily driver wont't be a "Hand me down" .

Take one word od advise from a friend and set one other rule for her with it, not to be letting her friends drive it even if she is with them and includes boy friends. My first cousin got their daughter a new car for her high school grad and she let her boy friend drive it when they dated and he wrecked it running fast and killed her and her best friend is brain dead till this day

We just had that conversation. NOBODY but NOBODY drives that car but she or me!

I think you made the best decision in buying her a SOM formy!!!
Of course, Im a little biased, since she told me two days ago that you were getting it for her. I think its fitting that she gets an SOM, considering shes a tea-sipper, but hey, thats the aggie in me talking.
I think she's genuinly excited, and it will be good for the two of you to have something to bond over.
BTW: I heard you got some zaino for christmas, hope you two have fun waxing your cars till your blue in the face!
By the way, is she single? Cause I think I need to marry into a family like this, where 18 year olds are bought Fcars!!!!
