In our old house, my dad and I took up carpet upstairs and put in wood parque tile. We also tore up carpet stairs and replaced the step boards with gorgeous stained pine. Our new house came with a very nice mixture of stone tile, wood, and carpet.
Personally, I like wood. Its much warmer than stone, and easier to keep clean than carpet. Carpet also has a habit of holding dust and contaminants that can irritate someone with asthma or other respiratory problems. It can also cause mold that can cause serious illnesses. The only downside to wood is that you have to be very careful not to pour water on it, otherwise its a PITA to fix. Of course, I come from a line of country people, so wood flooring is in my blood.
Nice pics, both you and ken!
