If you read the thread we started entitled “Emblem Worries”, please read this…We’ve found our SS!
Today (Sunday) we put a deposit on an extremely babied totally stock (well, minus the SLP options) 2002 Pewter SS with 54,000 miles on it ( I know that’s a lot, but we couldn’t let it go!). I know this is going to sound very choppy, because I’m excited to have it! But…
First of all, I checked the RPO codes and it DID have WU8! It also had Y2Y, LS1, Z28, etc. It also has two SLP stickers on the doors. According to the passenger sticker, the 17x9 chrome 5-spoke wheels and center mount exhaust were installed at SLP. Did they also put the airbox on without stating it on the SLP tag on the passenger door? It has the Donaldson airbox with “SLP” on it, just didn’t know if they documented it on the SLP sticker or not.
Then we drove it to a large empty parking lot and opened the hood, truck, and doors. I turned on ALL of the lights and made sure they all worked, radio played, made sure the speakers weren’t busted, etc. There is no sign of leaks under the hood or under the car itself. I could tell of no signs of it being wrecked. It drove straight (no pulling to the left or right), guys, as far as I can tell, this car is pristine!
So, we signed the papers, put a deposit on it, and should be able to head back up to Richardson and get it tomorrow (when we get financing done)! My wife (which is who it will belong to) loves it! You guys have helped me so much in finding an SS for her after what happened last month. I really appreciate what you’ve done. I guess I need to get some pics up here (which I will do).

Congrats!! Will the guy let you have it checked out by someone?? If so, I would recommend Lane or Mike at Lane's Performance in Irving.....they are top o' the heap as far as experts on cars/performance/racing, etc., etc. They are the ONLY ones that I have ever let touch babyT....they are GODS!!!
Hope you have many years of fun with your SS!! Posted by chrisL (Member # 97) on :
the donaldson airlid was included with any of the slp exhausts on most of the 02 SSs.

No, the Donaldson air filter is available over the counter from SLP, and so is the airbox lid. Sounds like yours were added on after the purchase, as they are on most cars.
Looks like you got a neat car! Hope you have lots of fun, and maybe we will all get to meet you sometime. Make sure you hang around the board and get to know people. Posted by DanA_F99_1977 (Member # 118) on :

If your 2002 has the "345 HP center exhaust package" on the sticker, then it included the donaldson blackwing filter housing, too. If I remember correctly, that was new for 2002, and the early '02 cars didn't have them until like September '01 or something like that. That was a $1,359 package option. The CME or dual/dual WAS available separately without the lid for $1,099 and $899 (I think this was the price of dual/dual) respectively, however. It was rated at 335 HP without the lid. Some cars were built and sent WITHOUT the lid, even when the package was ordered, and then SLP would ship the lid to the dealer later for them to change it out. I know that happened a few times.
And oh yeah, GREAT purchase, you won't be sorry!! As we all know, pewter is cuter! Posted by twobrats (Member # 2180) on :
Should I admit to what we paid for it?

That is exactly what happened with mine. I orginally ordered it but it came to the dealership separately a month after I got the car.

Sounds like a neat car, ...if your air filter housing has the "Blackwing" logo on it (lower right I think) it appears the car came with the 345hp package. You mentioned the SLP sticker(s) on the pass. door, ...it should list it there too "345hp performance package" (or similar to those words). As others have mentioned, the filter/housing could have been changed later and it may have just come with the centermount. In either case, this one (being stock) sounds better than the last one you posted about). Best of luck with the car, ...enjoy Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
Congrats! Sounds like a great SS for sure.Hope the price reflected the miles. Enjoy that ride! Posted by DWS (Member # 2009) on :

From what I hear on this board, the world outside of Texas is covered with a huge layer of snow & ice.... Posted by DaddySS (Member # 848) on :
Excellent - sounds like you found an excellent SS.
Any questions, etc. down the road don't hesitate to ask. Posted by twobratSS (Member # 2180) on :
Okay...here's my first couple of questions...
1. Since it was used, the guy we bought it from said the previous owner didn't have the key fobs. How much are they and is there any particular type to get to make sure they're stock?
2. Where do we get an owner's manual?
Posted by NATESS (Member # 982) on :
by key fobs, do you mean the optional SLP key ring "key fobs" with SS logo on them? or the Keyless entry key fobs. the keyless ones, you can get them at the dealer, and they are pretty spendy. i am not sure how you can get the other ones. maybe you can contact SLP, and see if they can send you some.
i believe GM is the one who can send you a new owner's manual.

You can get an owner's manual and remote entry key fobs from any GM dealer or GM Parts Direct. You can reference 4th Gen F-body manuals online at: THIS LINK. Posted by SuperSport (Member # 1686) on :

There's also an Owner's Manual Supplement for SS cars. You'll probably have to talk to SLP for that one.
Congrats and welcome to the Pewter Club!

The fobs were not on your door decal, so the P.O. did not order SS fobs. The remote door/hatch fobs is a GM part, and 16245100 is the part number you'll need. You'll need 2 if you and your wife each want one. They come with the batteries already but you'll need to program them to your car. Which is pretty easy, actually. There should be a procedure in the owner's manual, but if you need any assistance, you know where to ask.
As others have said, they're pretty pricey new. With shipping and all that, gmpartsdirect can ship 2 to your door for the paltry sum of $76.66. Nominal discounts even at the dealership is $42 and change, so that's $84 before tax. I'd see if the dealer would at LEAST get ONE for you.
Posted by twobratSS (Member # 2180) on :
Thanks for the info guys. I went to the Chevy house today and bought one fob. It cost plus or minus some change $60 with tax. They only had one, so would there be another place (like GM parts direct) to get a second for less than $60 (shipping and handling included) or is the dealer my best shot?
Also, I've got the sites for the manuals. I'll talk to SLP and GM about getting the original hard-copies.
Thanks again!

Contratulations!
Oh by the way, why would you buy such a but-ugly car ?
Posted by twobratSS (Member # 2180) on :
Just wanted to let y'all know that I purchased a fob just now on GM Parts Direct. Came out to be just under $40. I would've saved about $20 if I would've waited, but I was growing tired of having to worry about the horn blowing every time I got into the car. Programming it was a snap!
