Article basically says that silver cars get in fewer accidents, citing a study from Australia. As an explanation, the explanation is offerred that the brighter color is easier to see, allowing drivers to more easily avoid silver cars in accidents. Assuming thier explanation was accurate, I would expect bright red, purple, or yellow cars to be safest, as they are much easier to see than silver cars.

That’s BS.
My sister had a Silver car and that thing got hit all the time. She had people back into it in parking lots. It even got rear-ended three times at stop lights. The last time was a 45 MPH hit that destroyed the car and injured my mother. The people would say that they never saw it. Silver has a tendency to disappear in bright sun.
I will never own another Silver car nor would I ever recommend one.

I believe this has more to do with the demographics of the people who buy silver cars than the color itself. Have you ever noticed that the cars in most Mercedes (and now Chrysler), Audi, Lexas, BMW commercials are silver.

As a reserve deputy and ex-full time police officer (now I teach...funny, basically the same job...lol), I can tell you the brighter colors are very much easier to see, and therefore much more noticeable when one is travelling over the speed limit (of course, radars don't see colors).
Once I went back through all my tickets and noticed how much reds, blues, etc. there were compaired to silver, whites, etc. Never did that with my accident investigations...wish I still had the information to check that out.

...as visible as red is on a car, studies have shown it is not as visible as some other colors on a larger vehicle, like a fire truck. A study years ago revealed that white and yellow were more attention grabbing on fire vehicles than the traditional red, so many departments changed the color of their apparatus to yellow, lime green or white. Today you find fire trucks not only painted white and yellow, but also blue and green. Most departments today still prefer the traditional red, or a combination of red and white, because in today's society with it's preoccupied drivers it doesn't matter what color you paint the truck, how loud the sirens or air horns are, or how many lights, strobes and LEDs you have on the truck, they still don't see or hear you... Well, my SS in pewter, my former f-body ('94 V6) was red. Red definitely stands out. Red is my favorite color. Every red vehicle I have ever owned has been hit (4 red ones)! So I decided to try a different color. My '94 was "attacked" several times- Hit & run,keyed,backed into by my wife- I really hope nothing happens to my pewter '99
