you really need the diesel? just askin.

I hate the exhaust smell, so unless I was pulling a yacht or horse trailer, I couldnt do diesel.

awful nice trucks though. I was looking at pics of the new 1500 crew cab last night. the 5.3L is plenty enough power for my needs.

Diesel is a little overkill, but ask anyone who trailers a car, in an enclosed trailer, w/o a diesel. They'd say "I wish I got a diesel"

I actually never intended to buy a new truck I wanted a used one, but the offers on new cars and trucks makes buying a 1-2 year old vehicle silly. It is actually cheaper to buy new.

Reasons:

Power.
Torque.
Fuel Economy.
100,000 mile warrantee on Engine & Trans.
Great Price.

I don't trailer much, but when I picked my SS up at Tom Henry's, ...I 'traded' trucks (Dodge Rams) with my friend for the weekend. It's amazing how effortlessly the diesel pulls... The new ones (especially the duramax) are quieter too...
Definitely a nice truck ...

To make it pencil out you would need to buy $5000 dollars worth of gas for the premium the motor and tranny cost over the 8.1. Thats a lot of gas in my book.... most people never recoup their costs... unless you drive a million miles a year. Its more a man thing to say you have disel... I prefer gas burners any day....

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But when a 8.1 would be lucky to get 8 mpg vrs a 15 mpg towing with the diesel, I pass you anyday. And maybe it is a "guy" thing . . . . .

I won't be seeing you at the gas pump. And as cost the the upgrade over a gas engine, there are also savings on expendables and warrantee, at 36,000 miles when the warrantee on the 8.1 is over, repairs are your's where on the diesel you can keep trucking till 100,000 miles.

Get a Cummins. I haul my SS around in a 20 ft enclosed trailer and my 04 2500 HO pulls it like it isn't even back there. And it gets near 16 mpg doing it. All in a I6. I love my cummins [Big Grin]

Chevy for sports cars, but if you go diesel, go Dodge. [Razz]

Nice truck Andy and as to milage a friend got a new heavy duty with the 801 gas and we went on a trip together with him following me on the interstate and checked his milage every stop for gas and he got 12 miles a gallon every time and he was running empty and pulling nothing
