I still remember seeing this blue Z28 in motor trend when I was like 12. It was a 91/92 with the wing, they had it in the desert. It looked so bad. The other feature of the issue were supercars and all I thought was how much cooler the Z was.
Then a few years later I saw this 4th gen in a Wal mart parking lot get all on it. He just took off. Later that week I'm going past this car show and there's this huge smoke cloud ahead in the other lane so we pull over. All of a sudden this Camaro comes snarling out of it. That was it I was hooked.
It still burns me that I destroyed my 91. There was a post here last week about getting rid of your car, I couldn't image it. I plan on adding a 2nd. I play powerball so I can daydream about buying a dozen.

My first significant Camaro memory was riding in my highschool girlfriend's silver '69 Camaro and she wouldn't let me drive!
So when I got all grown up and could afford it, I went out and bought my own Camaro and it's much nicer and faster than that old '69 although maybe not worth as much.
I haven't seen my old girlfriend or her old Camaro in years. I sure do miss that car!

My Brother bought his CAmaro in 77 when the Z28 was brought back by Chevrolet and in 81 I drove my Cousins Camaro and really loved.
In 1985 when the IROC version was introduced I said I was going to get one and in '86 purchased a Bright Blue Camaro Z28 IROC-Z and still have it to this day with 9964 original miles.

2nd week in September 1966 I saw my first Camaro and it was love at first sight. I was in the Air Force and working part time as a mechanic at the Chevy dealer in town to help finance my drag racing.(Was running a NHRA A/S 66 Chevy II L79, went undefeated at Jacksonville for the 66 season, god it was fun beating those Hemis).
The Camaro was a green six cylinder, 3-speed manual, plain Jane car, but I loved it. I was the first person to drive it after it came off the truck. I did the new car service on it and drove it all over town. Shortly after that we got a 350 4-speed in and that was a ball. Before I had a chance to get my Camaro, Uncle Sam transfer me to Alaska and a DEW site. Sold the Chevy II with plans on buying a Camaro when I got back.
Got back to the states and out of the Air Force in April of 68, got a job at the cape on the Apollo program and the first thing we brought after finding a place to live was a 68 Camaro SS/RS L78 with big plans to run NHRA E/SS. We still have the 68, a lot of cars have come and gone, but we still have the 68.

I bought it from my sister in '76 . The 1st memory was in high school when a friend had a dark blue Bilt through the roof. Nothing could touch it.......Scarry to give this to a 17 year old.

My 4th grade teacher was talking about a NEW car that she had ordered...a Camaro. I was excited to see what it looked like since I used to be real good at free hand drawing cars for other kids in the class. The day she drove it to school I remember like it was yesterday...a gold 1967 Camaro Sport Coupe. back in 82' my first trip to FL (to live there a couple years) my dad had his company car with him at the mobile airport,... it was an dark blue or greay (dark colored - that I know) 82 Camaro ... I thought it was the 2nd coolest car I have ever been in (my great aunt's 32' Auburn concourse restored is the coolest in my book!) I was 6 at the time. My dad was pulled over and ticketed because a drunk driver nearly ran us off the road and he sped to get away from him... for going 90 mph in a 55 i didn't even know we got that fast as the ride was so smooth !! I loved that car and I was hooked... can you imagine the company car being a camaro!

My mom was still in high school when I was born in 1966, so you can say I cut my teeth on cool cars. Her friends drove Camaros, Chevelles, Mustangs, etc. They would strap my baby seat in the back of the car and take me cruising with them between Jack's Drive-In and Cubby's Drive-in on Friday/Saturday nights.
When I got to high school in the 80's, those late 60's cars were affordable, so the parking lot on any given day had really cool cars in it. I had my '68 Chevelle and other cars that my classmates had include: a '65 Malibu, '68 Nova, '69 Camaro RS/SS, '64 dual-antenna Impala SS, '67 Chevelle 396 SS, '56 Ford Truck, '60 long bed Chevy straight side truck, '60 short box Chevy step side truck, '69 Road Runner, '70 Bronco, '57 Chevy hardtop, '64 Thunderbird, '68 Charger, (and more that I can't remember). We literally could have a car show at school every day of the week. People used to race in front of the school after the last bell. It was crazy. Of course, we'd go cruising in town on the weekends before it was banned several years later. We had a car of the month in our school paper. I should have saved them all. I wonder if they're microfilmed in the school library......

I remember one of my brother's friends had a white '77 or '78 Camaro with the RS package, which had a stripe package that significantly featured orange in it.

1st one? My close friend's father passed away when we were in fourth grade. His wealthy grandfather felt sorry for all of the kids and bought Mike and each of his siblings any car they wanted when they turned sixteen. In 1978, Mike got a '75 Rally Sport w/350 4bbl. black/silver 2 tone with the stripe down the sides, and over the roof... What a car. I rode shotgun throughout Rockland & Orange Co.s, NY at the age of 16. We were on top of the world. The stories would fill volumes. Racing (winning), lawn jobs, near misses, working on it, earning gas/parts money... some kids played sports, we lived in that car. It's a wonder I'm here. That was an inspiration, as if I needed it. I was raised loving American V8's and live rear axles. And so it is.

My parents & I had been looking at cars for me to drive to school. We'd looked at the LeMans and the Cutlass ( ), the Mustang ( )and the Chevelle ( ).
However, being the non-traditional, outta-the-box Aquarius that I am , all these seemed way too tame and "girly-girly" to suit me. I pummeled my parents into letting me look at Challengers and Camaros. I really liked both of them, and was <thisclose> to deciding on a black-over-red Challenger.
UNTIL....one day we drove up to Dallas from Waco and I saw the Midnight Bronze color on a '72 SS 396....soooo dark brown that it looked black.....tiny gold flecks that glittered in the sunlight.....and it was love at first sight....

My first memory of a Camaro was an early 70's Burnt Orange Z28 with an LT1 and a Munice 4-speed. The rock crusher version.
You could hear that car coming for a quite a ways. The tranny whined due to the straight cut gears and the valve train was quite audible with the solid lifters.
We knew the owner (was in our car club) and he solo'd the car with great success. He had special shims made for the front suspension that he put in at solo events to give more caster and a ton of negative camber.
Alice coveted that car. Stopped here in her tracks every time she saw or heard it.
We went on to buy a '78 Camaro Z28 in August 1978. We had been considering a Monza V-8 but they had been doscontinued. A friend told us of a Z28 in a dealer's holding lot. I called about it and turns out it had been special ordered by a customer. GM had told the dealer it would not be made by the end of the model year, so the customer was given his deposit back. The dealer was quite surprised when it arrived.
Alice went to the dealer and looked at it. She liked it. She called me from the saleman's office gave me a run down and we agreed to buy it.....on the spot. I closed the deal over the phone with the sales man. Paid $8,700 CDN.
It was Carmine Red with a red cloth interior and a 4-speed manual, along with A/C and an AM/FM radio. We had that car for 7 years. Lots of memories with it. Oh, and it did NOT stay stock!!

You folks got me thinking-I may have only owned one Camaro,but alot of them have been in my life.
When I was little the barber who cut my hair had a beautiful '69 SS in that bright green metallic color. It was always parked sideways across three spaces. Then there was the plain jane straight six car my neighbor had- a '69 that they lost the keys and title to. The car sat there for about 15 years with all 4 of its original dog dish hubcaps. One day it just disappeared. Then there is the '67 SS vert up the street that almost never came out of the garage- I think it is still there and probably still perfect. In high school it was my friend's clapped out '67 and a driveway engine transplant. I didn't buy mine until about 1994. It was a '70&1/2 RS/SS 350 with the original engine (and in need of a full restoration) Never even made it legal but I had a great time doing "phantom blasts" around the neighborhood until I sent it on to a new owner who was excited to start the restoration. ah yes, I remember it well.......
September 10, 1966....our dealership got the first Camaro off the carrier --it was covered with a beige muslin car cover (back then we had to hide them until announcement day)....it was Bolero Red with a white bumble bee stripe......and I thought it was the greatest looking car I'd ever seen...esp. with that bumble bee stripe and the hideaway lights....it was sold, of course, before it ever made it onto the showroom floor...but on the Saturday evening of new car announcement ...hmmmm...that would be, I believe, October 1, my Mom got her Emerald Turquoise Demo....and my grandmother got a Granada Gold Demo.....and I was on cloud nine...didn't have my license yet, but was allowed to drive in the driveway.....so of course, everytime my Mom was ready to go somewhere, I'd go out and 'warm up the car'...good thing we had a relatively long driveway at the time.......
It's been a love affair ever since.....and not a day goes by that I don't realize just how fortunate I've been to be able to work on such great cars........
Over the years, I've been lucky to have a number of Camaros....my first new Camaro was a '73 Type LT....bought it on a 'baloon note' while in college.....and in '74, a bright red LT (Dad won't hear of a Z28.....guess he knew me too well!) Went to work for Chevrolet in 1977 and of course, had to have a Camaro company car in the summer months..and I often wonder what happened to all of those cars........
Most memorable? That Red '67 on Sept 10, '66....my Grandmother's Hugger Orange '69 RS/SS (yup...driven by a little ole lady to church every sunday....) my '73 LT....a 1982 Navy Blue Z28..got it before announcement....a yellow 78 Z.....a '92 Anniv. convert...white with red stripes and red leather(wish I could find that one....) my first '93 Z in Quasar Blue.....the first '97 Anniv. convert....and of course, the 35th anniv. ....oh yea...the ZL1 development car...the 302 project car........(Ok, I'll shut up now or I'll bring down the server.............)

A guy at High school had a really nice steel blue '69 he had done over himself. And that '73 that sat in a little car lot at the end of my street. My sister had a burgundy 74 305ci Camaro. That car was the first car I ever drove. I was soo excited! I always looked forward to driving it! Some years after that there was a green 70 or so tubbed out Z28 lurking around my neighborhood. That car was FREAKING AWESOME! There was a painting of The Hulk blasting through the cowl hood. He also had a personal plate that said ZHULK. Everytime I saw that Z lurking around I would go into a trance. My buddy would say "Damn, there goes Z Hulk again,THATSABADMOTHA@*#$%~"!! There was also guy a very sharp blue 78 or 79 Z28 with white leather interior,4 speed,Crager SS/Ts,very loud stereo,personal plate(Casper).He lived a few blocks from me. I would always wave at him as he drove by. Then he would contort his whole arm into the letter Z. I would just laugh because I though that was the coolest thing! Everytime he saw me he would do that. His brother had a real sharp convertible vette with the same wheels.

First memory hanging out at Amy Joy donuts at 13 years old when a built dude driving a Marina blue 67 (1 of 602 made), pulls in and revs it and does a huge burnout! Next was when I bought a 69 Z/28 with the 302 DZ motor, 4-speed doing my own burnouts! Next is when my Father co-signed for a brand new 79 rally sport with the anemic 305 2 barrel! Next was my 2001 SS and lastly my baby 2002 Z4C! great car great memory!

My mother had a 1969 Mustang that she bought after her best friend bought a 1968 Red Camaro.
It had the nose bumble bee stripe (hockey stick style) downt the side. Black and White houndstooth interior, she kept it till about 4 years ago. Was still in excellent condition.
But at her age it became difficult to enter and exit. It was the typical only driven by little old lady Camaro! Always garaged, never winter driven. Our poor Mustang went through 3 teenage boy drivers, that Camaro had a soft life! Only she drove it!
