Welp, the site is up, but in a very young stage. I am still tweaking and working with Dirty Doug on it, but you can check the updates at http://www.skylinedrivecruise.com whenever you want. [Big Grin]
BTW thank Joe from fbodyowners for the www.skylinedrivecruise.com URL [Cool]

I'm just patiently waiting for the "When and Where" section to be completed... [Big Grin]

I know for the where, they are trying to make it in the front royal area so that noone gets lost on the drive out there in the morning and on the way back [Eek!] .. which it was kind of a pain getting out there.... although the backroads were kinda fun [Big Grin]

as for the when... I guess they'll doa vote or something and see whens best for the majority of people [Wink]

In a way, I want to stay closer so we can spend more time on the mountain roads and such. But, I had so much fun on the backroads, I kinda want to stay further away again. I mean, when you get lost, it justifies some pretty high speeds! Then again, the closer we stay, the better chances nobody goes to jail... [Wink]

I guess I'm a tradionalist. I vote for Mid May
and for staying at the Hampton again. They like
us there and we get the car wash facility.

The ride to the drive and back is part of the
fun. The back roads make the trip more interesting
in my opinion.

... not to worry. The whole event will be fun, scenic and exhilerating. Mountain cruzin', backroads, in town with all the amenities, hangin out relaxin', photo ops. You name it.

Couldn't agree more....half the fun are the backroads (i.e. the "stop sign" that everyone felt the need to deposit a generous helping of rubber at [Big Grin] )

Can't wait!!

I agree. Skyline itself is dissapointing in comparison to the roads up there. Especially the highway out of Warrenton. [Big Grin]

I was at the end of that convoy last year... if I didnt have my laptop with GPS, I'd have never found my way back to Stafford.

No attempt was made to ensure the group stayed together.

Some accomodation needs to be made for the slower cars in the group. Every year we have folks come in family cars too. At least one local needs to be at the back of the convoy in case folks get seperated.

That is what we did with Booze Cruise 1 and we did have sheep wander off but we caught it quick and got them back on the trail.

I think copies of maps and breaking down into smaller groups may help.

2 way radios throughout the convoy are handy
as well.

I know it's a ways off, but I'll have an extra radio if someone needs one. [Big Grin]

I loved the trip up through the back roads from the Hampton to the park and back again. I also enjoyed the car wash privileges we had at the Hampton. [Big Grin]

Also, the Hampton is so easy to find right off exit 143A.

Bottom line is, no matter where we stay or when we do it, IT WILL ROCK!!!!!!! [Wink] [Big Grin]

Brian, we got left behind so badly, we were out of FRS radio range.

Yes, I agree.

I've led the convoys down from Newburgh to NJ for SLP day. I always made sure I had radio contact with the last car.

These were among the suggestions I made when Doug first tabled Skyline '04.

No matter where we stay, it'll be awesome. I like staying back in Stafford, but then again I've only been once and I might like somewhere else just as well. They seem to accomodate us, and the free car wash is a nice service. It's kinda hard with such a long convoy to be sure the last car has radio contact with the first. Many people I am sure are using 2 mile radios, and we all know they are 2 miles in PERFECT conditions. I do believe we need at least one person in the VERY back who knows the way. I got left on the way back to the hotel Sunday. Ken was in front of me, and another car cut me off and separated us. Ken went through a light, and it turned yellow, and the car in front of me slammed on brakes. Before we lost radio contact, he told me how to get to I-95, and I found my way back to the hotel. Maps would help I'm sure.

If we do stay closer, I'll offer up a small suggestion. Perhaps if we go both ways on Skyline Drive Saturday, since we'll be closer and can spend more time there. Then on Sunday, go on other mountain roads or back roads or wherever so we don't have park rangers to flirt with Ken. Just a suggestion...I'm a follower in this thing!
