All,

Recently I had my car detailed and during the process the door decal on the driver's side door was ripped off. I did not notice the sticker was gone until after I'd gotten home. I call the detail shop and inquired if they still had decal but they acted dumb and did not know what I was talking about...that will teach me to let some one else detail my car.

Anyway, I'd like get a replacement decal. I ask my dealership about getting one for me and was told they could not help me. That does not make sense...can anyone tell me if there is anyway I can get a new decal?

Thanks,

I highly doubt you could buy one from a GM dealer because the VIN is on it.You may want to see if the dealer can warranty the decal replacement.

Been there, done that. Was told by the dealer that I needed to contact the Chevy Customer Care group. I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer with a phone number or email addres for the CCC group...I'm not holding my breathe that I'll hear back.

I know I've seen it before where you can get
replacements. Someone will remember. Have you
done a search by subject?

You would think if the cars door had been damaged in an accident ,that a replacement decal should be available.

My door was replaced in my accident, they cut out the decal (still attached to the thick plastic). I'm going to scan it and make and exact replica of it and attach it to my door. I've also made a totally new one using my computer and printed it out. So if you can't get it replaced, maybe soemthing that route. [Smile]

Hmmmm, those decals just don't fall off easily. What do you think the detail shop wanted it for?
Do you think they'll try to use it to fake a car?

We tried to get a replacement RPO decal just in case anything happened to ours down the road and we weren't able to get one.

Keep us posted if you are able to get one.

All,

Just a quick update...decided to get in the car and pay a visit to another dealer. This time I hit pay-dirt.

I started at the Service Department this time instead of going directly to the Parts Dept. Once again, I explained my situation to the Service Writer just as I had to the other dealership. At first I thought I was going to get the same response. You know, "I've never heard of that happening before..." With a peplexed look and a brief scratch on her head she recommended we walk over to the Parts Depart and talk to one of the guys there.

She explained to the Parts Dept exactly what I had just explained to her. The gentleman from Parts Dept responded with the rarely heard words, "No problem, we can fix that for you."

He walked out with me to the car and recorded my VIN number and mileage. The VIN and mileage will be sent to someone at Chevy who will in turn print a brand new door decal for me. He stated not to be surprised if it takes 4 - 6 weeks before the decal is printed. Also, he informed me that I could possibly recieve a phone call from Chevy confirming I was indeed the owner of the vehicle and was actually needing a new decal...I guess is a precaution to prevent the possible chopping of the vehicle.

Anyway, it looks like I'll be getting a new door decal after all. Lesson here is don't take "we can't do that" as an answer.

Thanks for the responses and input.

John

John sorry about that and I hope the ones they print for you does not say copy at the top being as it is not the one that left the factory with the car. I am lucky I guess as I have a extra set of all the door decals for my car 3 on the drivers door and 1 on the passenger door. If mine come off I got more and in the mean time I got them in a album with my window stickers and the cars factory build sheets. The plant manager in Canada mailed them to me a couple weeks after the car was shipped to me. I did not ask for them I guess he was thinking ahead for me.

Man, I wish we could figure out how to get those. We tried when the car was brand new in 99, but had no luck. Let us know if anybody finds a way to do this, just in case something happens!

Will check back and confirm if the label has COPY annotated on it...

Your dealer doesn't know what they are taking about.... I will be currious what they "get" for you as they aren't available. The only thing GM does for customers is to have a dealer print you a option sheet out of "VIN sys" (it lists info on post 95 vehicles). I will bet you money they can't get something for you.... I have looked into this before. Sorry to burst your bubble but GM has a policy not to reprint anything with a VIN number on it.... This is coming from a guy who knows..... [Wink]

I tend to agree with you MM. There is a part number for the decals, but it is a non-servicable part. I will be VERY surprised if you get one. Hope you do, but that is something that isn't normally done for obvious reasons.

You would think there was a way for the regional manager or someone with some pull to verify the car and be able to reprint one, but GM is very controlling of that sort of information.

Don't worry TOO much if you don't get one. After all, there's reproduction stickers being made for older GM cars out there now. Probably won't be long before you can get repros for yours.

You are more than likely right as I remember someone had their door damaged about a year ago and when they painted the door jam he no longer had his. I don;t remember what board it was on but most told him they would not print any and thats why I said I was really lucky on that as I have my extra's right here under the puter desk now.

If you want to protect your door decals. Here is something I got from RAGSS. It is a urethane protection transparent film.
3M Scotchcal- #84904 is 4" wide X 84" long. 4" is just the right width for the door decals. It will protect the decals from fading. I put it on all my door decals. It is about $28-30/roll.

As a alternate plan, maybe one of the persons that make the caliber decals could make them for you, as long as you know all the info that belongs on your door decal.

Ha... I hope your kidding...no regional manager cares about getting a replacement sticker... Im a "manager" at GM SPO and I know for a fact that we don't do this... There is a reason they don't reprint them.... I've been down this road before for customers...

A bit of a suggestion.

I worried about my door stickers getting ripped or damaged from cleaning or what not. In fact one of mine started to peel in one of the corners.

A few months ago I came up with an idea. I applied a layer of clear vinyl over all of my door stickers.

No more worrying about peeling or fading from rubbing them. Protected for a long long time.

I've got it on mine! [Cool]
