.....I went to the local ice rink and skated for 2 hours. Hard to imagine my old CCM 652 Super Tack's with a Rebok Pumps still fit and I still can skate.I never even fell. The only thing I did not like was that I could not do a hockey stop and spray the ice 4 feet in the air like I used to.My son actually let his friend borrow these skates recently and he had them sharpened.I could corner like a Camaro but when it came to stopping...the blades just doug into the ice like they had ABS.After the blades get a bit duller,I will be ok.Anyone else ice skate or play hockey?

Yep, played hockey for three years in college. Loved it. Still my favorite sport. I've not been on skates for a long time. All just memories of a wasted youth now. Still have my skates. Guess someday I should dig them out again now that we have a hockey rink in town.

Still skate - up to last year was on the ice at least twice a week.
Ben is still playing organized hockey - Windsor Minor - Midget Major Tier 1.
Actually Mary and I used to skate every weekend for 2 hours. Great excersize and we'd take all the kids and then go for hot chocolates after. A good family outing indeed. Posted by Mike2001SS (Member # 2088) on :
Have not been since my kids grew up and got married but did go every week when they were growing up

Yup, still play hockey. Broke my arm in a game in November. I expect to get back with the team in another two weeks or so. Was playing 3 nights a week but got too hard to get up in the morning to go to work.
I love it!!

I still do. I take my 15 year-old daughter ice skating and roller skating. Posted by JohnS (Member # 1073) on :

I played hockey in our company shop league for a number of years.
I first met my lovely wife-to-be while ice skating at the local arena. I had seen her before while roller skating during the previous summer, but I didn't have the nerve to ask her out.
My youngest son is a goalie in a hockey league in Toronto.

Wouldn't skating be like riding a bike? Once you learn you never forget? Question on my part as I haven't skated in 30 years. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

I guess that may be true, but I am not in the shape I was in back then. Even my daughter that used to take figure skating lessons when she was a kid just started skating again.Looks like all of the money I invested in her lessons paid off.She can still jump and do all of the moves she did back then.My son was on a Little Ceasar's hockey leauge when he was a kid.He was actually a real good player. He recently joined a hockey league and skates every weekend. I had both kids into ice skating when they were young.Let me tell you ....that was expensive. It cost me every month as much as my house payment! Posted by Rhode Island Red (Member # 220) on :

Aren't you guys born with skates on? LOL Haven't skated in years, my guess is if I tried now I would be so stiff I wouldn't be able to walk for days.

The local rink I go to has metal walker like devices to help you out with that so you do not need to hand on the rail. Posted by 35TH ED/ed (Member # 1709) on :

WOW I didn't know learing to skate could cost so much. I learned the hard way. On skating rinks we used to make with the neighbors back when I lived in Detroit. We had a skating rink from our house, across a field over to the neighbors. We invited the whole neighborhood over to use it and man did it get used. Everyone loved it.

Okaaaaaaayyyyy.....please educate the ignorant....how do you make a skating rink?? I thought y'all just skated on frozen lakes & stuff.... Posted by Bill Mason (Member # 1807) on :
Oh, oh...that's esay!!
Take on garden variety hose. Turn on water and pour over any reasonable flat surface.
Chill until frozen.
Note: said chilling will occur by itself if the air and ground temperature is below 32 deg F.

Ken in the early 90's when both of my kids skated each month I shelled out around $300 for ice time. This does not count any hockey equipment or figure skating outfits for the daughter.

WOW.........I guess times have really changed. I remember riding by skating rinks and watching everyone just going out in these public forums for a little bit of a fee and really enjoying themselves. Guess it has really turned into a business.

I shell out at least $1000 a year for my leagues. They are about 13 games for around $300. It is well worth it, I love it. Greg, go shop for new skates!! They are big bucks now!

My son just bought a new pair of the latest and greatest top of the line CCM Tacks and they were on sale for a bit less than $500. Playing hockey is one great workout. Posted by Hawkeye (Member # 88) on :
My skates are older than some of the people on this board - tube blades! But, they still sharpen up, and I can keep up with most of the youngens!
