I finally got my Christmas present installed last week .(Granted it was one of those presents that I bought for myself). The SLP Long Tubes, cats, and y-pipe are all in and doing their thang. And it's great!! A huge improvement. I'm not so sure about the sound though. I've had the dual dual exhaust and I didn't change anything from the y-pipe back. It's a little louder, and doesn't sound bad, but it still sounds a little....choked. I've thought about the GMMG set up, but I'm wondering if that'd be too loud with the headers.
Of course concern about the increased HP also lead me to install my DGoetz Signature Series tunnel brace. A very nice piece of equipment.
The car threw a code last night so I've got to figure that out today, but it's running very well. Hopefully I'll be able to try it out at the track on Wednesday.

Congrats and have fun. Posted by DaddySS (Member # 848) on :
Depending on your interpretation of loud - the GMMG with headers is loud! I wound up putting bullet in the I pipe, but others like it.
Congrats on the upgrade! Posted by chrisL (Member # 97) on :
If you are running the OE SLP dual-dual, they flow fine.
Only change it if you dont like the sound.
As DaddySS mentioned, it could get pretty loud.

A number of people have found they are throwing codes after installing the SLP longtubes - me included. I don't believe they are any big deal, but perhaps it might not be a bad idea to make note of what they are. Maybe do a bit of research on LS1tech.com on this. I was throwing a couple of different ones - I forget now what they were, but apparently they were false codes, as Wade at ARE suggested just turning them off, which we did. As far as the exhaust sound is concerned, you might want to consider installing a cutout. Awesome sound, plus, you have the benefit of returning it "quiet mode" for long highway trips. I also have the dual-dual (as well as a heads and cam pkg) and the combination of low cost and maximum flexibility sold me on a simple cutout - best of both worlds! Have fun!
Best regardSS,
Elie

Heh, heh... are you talking about the dual-dual or the heads and cam?

I would think tuning the PCM would be a good idea too.

Well Randy, that leaves you with 1 mod down, 9,999,999 to go. Your off to a great start. Posted by Elie Garfinkel (Member # 1635) on :

Yup! Thanks for adding that in, Doug - it's an important point that I neglected to mention. After a heads and cam install, a custom tune will ensure the correct A/F ratio while maximizing your power output. 15 minutes on the computer and 3 dyno pulls got me from 346 RWHP to 367 RWHP with a bang-on A/F ratio! .. and yes Millie, you need a heads and cam pkg.!
