Tonight on the way into work, I was at a section going through Old Augusta, GA that was 2-lane riding along behind an SUV. Then I noticed some freak in the rearview mirror tailgating me hard. [Confused] Just about the point where it turned to 4-lane, he launched around me, nearly taking my quarter panel with him. It was a couple of guys in a new Impala LS, and they were driving like crazy. I flew hot about the quarter panel thing so I figured, "alright clown, I know you won't outrun this Camaro with your Impala, so I'm going to get your plate # and give it to a couple of cop aquaintances." So I sped up, have no idea how fast, but at a pretty good clip. He was booking it, weaving in and out of traffic like a fool. I kept thinking, "dang, he's pretty good with that Imapala, I didn't know they were that nimble." No matter, my car handles better and should be quicker. I was right, I was on him like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Right as soon as I was writing down the last digit of his plate number, red taillight strobes started flashing. WTF? OMG! It's a cop! And he pulled over some guy in front of him driving green Accord. As they turned off the main drag to park on a side street, I immediately backed off and slunk away, hoping like heck he didn't get my tag number! I kept checking the rearview all the way to work, but I made it without going to jail. At least so far tonight!

I don't normally do that sort of thing at all in Augusta or any town, but I was an idiot twice today. Once for letting the driving habits of a cop (or anyone else) get to me, and second, trying to drive like an idiot myself to get his plate number. I kept thinking they'd never buy the story that I was only trying to get a plate number, and I'm probably right on that. But as an FYI for travellers in GA or SC, unmarked cars in now have regular plates in both states. So keep your eyes peeled!

Again, kids, don't try this at home!

Glad the cops missed you this time. Next time you might not be as lucky.Would hate to see anybody get a ticket for nothing.

I was driving down I-94 here in Michigan a few years ago.It was nighttime. I was doing 70 mph in a 65 zone when all of a sudden I see what looked like a Caprice right on my back bumper.I speed up ...he sped up until I was going almost 90 mph. I finally get in the middle lane and this guy blows by me then turns the lights on. I had no idea it was a cop. Forcing me to drive faster and faster. He was lucky I was not driving my old beater or I may have gave him a brake check! [Smile]

Good advice, and congratulations on being responsible enough to admit when a mistake is a mistake! Seeking revenge is iffy under the best of circumstances. Trying to get revenge when you're behind the wheel of a car is a double-edged sword - as was pointed out in no uncertain terms - 'cuz you also have the cops to contend with if you're lookin' to get even! It just ain't worth the risk.

Best regardSS,

Elie
