Installing vinyl, do I have to strip Zaino off?
Searching the archives, it says to strip wax.
But, what about Zaino. Is polish a different
scenario?

yup. use a little rubbing alcohol to take any polish off where you will be applying the stickers.

if you want to be sure, you can email Sal.

Ditto Chris - will adhere better if you remove
the Zaino first. Rubbing Alcohol is the key!

Steve and I installed my stripe kit on my Formula and it was pretty easy. We also used the rubbing alchohol like Chris and the Canadian said [Cool]

One more vote for alcohol (of the rubbing variety). It works great. We used it to remove the many layers of Zaino from my SS before painting on the stripes.

.....oooooooooh... Rubbing alcohol... I used Coors to clean before I put my stripes on... [Eek!] [Wink] [Razz]

If you don't remove the Zaino your stripe will eventually lift as it will adhere to the Zaino, not your paint.

I did it on my windshield banner, and once there was water on there it started to lift.

If Zanio is like most polymers, ie;RACE GLAZE, you will only have one coat, not many. And to get the stuff off to apply any kind of decal, you must use their cleaner not alcohol. With the RACE GLAZE polish, the decals that I applied just fell off in the floor. Only after using their Leveling Compound did I get them to stay on. Of course, I had to purchase another set of decals from SLP.

Be sure to reapply your polish once the decals are installed.

So, do I dilute the rubbing alcohol with water?
Any details would be great...don't want to screw up the paint. Hate taking Zaino off, 30+ coats at this point [Roll Eyes]

Actually Zaino does stack, each coat adheres to the previous coat.

Just plain rubbing alcohol will work fine, no dilution is necessary. [Smile]

Actually, Zanio is also a ploymer, and it does not stack. Polymers have jewelers rudge, it acts like a cleaner to remove successive coats. Race Glaze is formulated that way and it too is a polymer product. They do not stack like a wax product.

Thats not what Sal Zaino told me. He told me that Zaino stacks. The more you apply the deeper the shine. Perhaps we need to get the polish guru here for better clarification.

zaino layers. it contains no solvents. the more layers....the deepr and wetter the shine.

anybody that disbelieves that....just email me private. i have a ton of pics...cause i have over 100 coats on the firehawk....and over 150 on the compta. the stripe on the compta looks like its painted on because of the layers.

race glaze has solvents. you only have one coat....when you apply it..it removes the previously applied coat. zaino does not do that. thats why u use zfx with each coat or z1 polish lock every ten coats, to tighten the polish bed and draw the exisiting coats tighter.....

i have the proof. both of them are in the garage...covered up. 97's....that look better than show room.
