I saw my SS, brand new with 200 miles on it, out in the rain, hah! Not even in the showroom. Yet, they had new cavaliers and malibus in there Posted by Old Coyote (Member # 1343) on :

Mine was never in a showroom... ...just on a used car lot that I spied across the street

My wife and I were going to order our SS (SOM, no T-tops, CME and maybe Bilstein)in mid-April 2002. I had contacted the GM Buy Power mgr (fleet mgr) and set up an appointment for Saturday. We arrived at the dealership and saw the LE still wrapped up- plastic on the outside, the seats were covered. (And it still had the SLP catalog, price list and 35th portfolio in the envelope.)
Took the LE for a drive (!), came back and told the assistant to the fleet mgr that I wanted to order an SS if possible, if not I would buy the LE.
Couldn't order one, so the LE came home on the following Wednesday.
