Just got a price for all new bearings and new 3.73 gears installed in Big Blue. $900.00!!! That sounds outrageous to me. This is the shop where I usually take my cars for work. They always do good work but they charge top dollar. What do you all think? Is this top dollar or well above. Should I look elsewhere?

When I grenaded my ring & pinion a couple of weeks before the BG trip last Sept. I was charged CDN$400 (cash deal) for the installation and set-up which included all new bearings and seals gasket etc. I paid about CDN$375 (15% tax in)for the new set of Richmond Street gears (a bit more expensive than the OEM gears). The Auburn posi, the axles and diff case were all OK to re-install.

Best regardSS,

Elie

In November of 2001 I paid $175 to have 3.73 gears installed in my 96 Impala. I supplied the gears, install kit, bearings, gear lub, gasket everything that was needed. The $175 was just labor nothing else. The workmanship was excellent, gears are as quiet today as the day Mike put them in.

That is very high priced. Shop around for a better deal. [Smile]

One thing I neglected to say is that the price includes installation of new axle bearings as well. Still sounds a little high.

Any So. Cal. members out there know of a good shop in the San Fernando Valley area?
