I've been using one on my '02 since it was new, no problems of any kind. The magnet is very strong and will not fall off. The best way I have found to remove it from the filter is to slide it down while the filter is still installed. Once the new filter is installed I slide the magnet back on (away from exhaust parts).

...looking into this right now. I've sent some emails asking for info (and IF there is interest) maybe an offer for the SSOA??? ...will hopefully post in a few days.

However, like Ed mentioned if anyone has experience with these, please post pros/cons, etc. It seems like a great idea, and from what I've heard so far, ...the proof is 'in the filter' (literally).

As per my post in the other thread, I have been using these oil filter magnets produced by FilterMag ever since 1997. I was so impressed with them that at the SEMA show this year the company was looking to finally set up dealers and distributors and I became the distributor for central Iowa.

I have had a FilterMag magnet on both my 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT 4X4 pickup truck and my 1997 30th Anniversary Camaro SS convertible since both were brand spankin' new (I put the magnets on first thing even before the first oil change on both at 500 miles). I did the very same thing on my 2002 GMC Envoy and my 2002 Camaro ZL1.

I have filters off my vehicles that my guys have cut open and you can see all the metal shavings stuck to the side of the filter can where the FilterMag was attached. Do they work? YOU BET ! ! ! I use Mobil 1 oil filters on all my vehicles too.

As far as I am concerned, you can't go wrong by putting one on your car. They attach with so much force that I guarantee you will never, ever loose one. As kdolson212 said above, the only way to remove it is to slide it off the filter. You just slide it off the filter when you change your oil and then snap it on the side of the new filter. You can just keep using it over and over again. My Dodge Dakota has almost 130,000 miles on it now and I religiously change the oil and filter every 2,000 miles. And if you would trade vehicles and your new vehicle has the same diameter oil filter, keep the FilterMag and use it on the new vehicle ! ! ! !

As I said above, I have been using them on all my vehicles since 1997 and now I am a distributor for the product. If any of you have any questions, I will try to answer them.

OK...My .02...I agree that yes you would probably see metal shavings on the wall of the filter if magnet was attached or something similar to the kind of accumulation we've all seen on the magnetized drain plug. The plug is in a good spot however because gravity is on its side. I think that any flow that gets picked up and pumped into the filter housing is basically trapped behind the micron size of the filter medium anyways(thats the important part). In addition..we have aluminum blocks and not everything bad in the oil is magnetic!

I know they make one for the Cavy, but soudns like the camaros would be a bit different (I dont konw how the oil filter sizes compare). Hmmm....to spend $47 or not....

I'm interested if we can do a group purchase and reduce the price. Afte $200+ in work on her yesterday and another $150 in work today I'll be hard pressed to convince Mel I have to have this.

What is the difference in the red & black again? The site didn't really say but it showed a nearly $10 diff in price.

I just got off the telephone with the President of FilterMag, Bob Fowler. Told him what I was trying to do for the association. It has been a common practice for magnetic filtration to be used in hydraulic power systems for decades. The cleanliness requirements of oil in these systems far surpass that of our car engines.
So it is my recommendation, from a purely hydraulic system point of view, that this is an excellent addition to our car's limited oil filtration system.
Now if we could find a manufacturer that could make an automotive oil filter with a 3 micron rating that could flow and not go into bypass before 3000 or 4000 miles these engine would literally never wear out.

Ya know, I never used one of these things before - and now I wished that I had used it on my 1987 Monte Carlos SS - I'm sure putting 253,000+ miles on the engine without one of those has caused irreparable wear and tear on the engine. I wonder if it's worth using one at this point?
