Don't anyone tell the FBodfather but I finally bought a new truck. I couldn't beat the deal. They badly wanted Mr. GM in the area to have a Nissan. I just had to. Deal was too good.

I had a certificate, still way off. They really wanted me in a Nissan. Of course, the SS is mine forever so that should keep me out of the doghouse.

Enjoy it, it's your money. You're the one that has to sleep at night with your choice, so if you can, you did the right thing for you. I personally don't see the draw to Nissan (aka P*ss-on)), but whatever blows up your skirt, enjoy!

Use it in the best of health of Dan. I know you did your research, and it's your hard earn money. Nissan is really trying to get into the Pick Up market, so I imagine they are almost a loss leader for the first few years. Enjoy! Posted by SS_CarGuy (Member # 2065) on :
I like F-150's myself. But I guess we all don't like the same thing or we wouldn't have choices would we?
Good luck with your new truck and I hope you enjoy it.

Dan, great looking truck.
You and my wife can share notes. She drives a Nissan Altima. You can't go wrong with Nissan quality. We've had two Nissans, a Maxima and now the Altima. Both cars have been maintenance free, except for the regular oil changes and tune-ups.

Some of you guys never cease to amaze me.
Thanks for the well wishes. I have had a number of Nissan products and never a complaint. I love my Chevy performance cars and if I was buying a new car, it would be a Chevy.
This is my beater, every day truck that I won't give my TLC too. So, the decision point was as much cost as anything else. I won't care what it looks like in a couple of years. It just needs to get me here and there. At the cost I go the truck, it was not a decision I had to make. It was easy!
Thanks for the good wishes!!
And Thom, should I have saved the water pump??

Congrats! Not a big fan of them personally, but if you're happy that's all that matters. I really love my 03 Silverado 4x4 and would buy another in a second! The Titans just don't do it for me...they look like a Frontier on roids, but again that's just my opinion...some are negative to me because my wife drives a Mustang GT but she's happy with it and so am I. Good luck!

I wish you all the best with it. Dave said you had stopped over with it a week or two ago. Was the Chevy getting tired or just time for a change? Betcha you'll have 5 coats on it before the end of March....

Andy, the truck doesn't get the saem Zaino care or any care really. It's something I can just drive.
Alfred, I already have the savings for that car!! Fbodfather better have one reserved for me!!
Good tidings to all. I wish you all good health, not problems with your vehicles and happiness with your life and hobbies! ENJOY! I do!

Granted, it IS a new truck and all, but it looks pretty shiny to me... And the other "beater" is lookin' good my friend. I took advantage of the warm weather this weekend to put another couple of coats of wax on the hot rod. I'll be happy to see the white stuff disappear for another season.
We have to hook up again some time soon for another game night with Dave.

Good luck with it. I have heard a lot of good things about the Titans. Nissans have always been good cars for my family as well. My dad just traded in the last Nissan in our family for a PT Cruiser - it had well over 100,000 miles and not ONE problem. Great quality cars.
Enjoy!

I've heard good things about Nissan trucks as well. (as well as Toyotas). Remember, it doesn't have to be an American Made truck to be good! Looks like you were going for value (cost vs quality). I'm sure you'll get some good use outta her. Oh..and that's a pretty cool color! Posted by Sizzle (Member # 503) on :

Dan, not cost vs quality. All my past Nissan truck have been high quality and reliable. That is what I need in my truck!
Sizzle-No mods, I save that for where they should be.
AgmSS - Game night anytime!! Both my hands work again!
Ed - I never heard from the person I sent it to. Hope he got it.
Kevin - I am slightly different. I am partial to GM vehicles. I have always had good luck with them. But when the deal is right, I have no choice!
Enough about the truck. I am ready to park it and drive my cars now!! I am sick of driving a truck all winter!

Sorry, my post wasnt clear, hehe...I meant you got a great deal for a well built (quality) truck! One might not see Nissan as decent quality, but I've been in a few (not trucks) And can tell ya they are built better (for the most part) than domestics....but lets not get into that!
Congrats again Dan!

Best of luck with the new vehicle. I really mean that, despite the rant below.
I've been biting my lip, but I can't hold back any longer. No Japanese badged vehicle is built in North America, they are ASSEMBLED here. The employment opportunities by foreign makers in the USA is completely lopsided vs. their sales, when compared to the domestics. Make no mistake, GM is STILL the largest private employer in this country, that is one of the major reasons I will continue to support them, not to mention the fact that their quality is second to none. My wife, prior to listening to me, owned Hondas and Nissans. They were not God's gift to the automotive industry by any stretch. Hands down, my Chevy's blew them away in terms of reliability and cost. I pampered her cars as I do my own. Maybe I am an anomaly, but I'm sick of Consumer Reports dragging the resale value of my domestic vehicles through the mud. They told me my old '86 F-body was garbage when I bought it new and every year for five years thereafter in terms of resale... I sold it last year after 17 years with 198k on the odometer and a peeling paint job for 10% of the purchase price new. That car never had a problem, despite getting the crap beat out of it regularly.
Besides, Nissan is owned by the FRENCH! Is that what I want to support??
And my Toyota/Honda/Nissan friends tell me that GM/Ford/Chrysler are assembling more and more cars overseas, so what's the point? My answer: What do you expect them to do? You are telling them to do so.
The question I ask myself is simple: If I don't buy domestic and support the economy that supports me, then who will?

Do you mean 10% of the new price or 10% off the new price? I.E. if the car new was $5,000 did you sell for $500 or $4,500?
Just curious. Not trying to flame at all.

He sold it for 10% of the Purchase Price. So in your example it would $500 bucks.
Posted by Harry P (Member # 533) on :
Right, actually, you made me think... I sold it for a little less than 9% of the purchase price. New PP = $12,500 (incl. tax, tags) in May 1986, and sold it last October for $1,100 cash. Actully, a bidding war between two 18 year olds broke out (the perfect demographic for that car), but I kaboshed it and respected the first offer that met my asking price 0f $1,100, despite being offered $1,300 by the second offerer. That was a great car, and unless he wraps it around a telephone pole, will probably serve him well for another 100,000 miles. It was a good deal for both of us, since that car owed me nothing, and then some.

Dan, sorry that this thread has been completely hijacked!
quote:Originally posted by Harry P: Besides, Nissan is owned by the FRENCH! Is that what I want to support??
That's not entirely correct - Renault and Nissan own a joint venture together as well as owning stock in each others' companies. But they aren't truly French-owned.
quote:The question I ask myself is simple: If I don't buy domestic and support the economy that supports me, then who will?
It's a little more complicated than that. The economy now, especially in the auto industry, is very much global. "Foreign" cars are made by GM and Ford. So if I buy a Jaguar aren't I supporting a domestic company even though the workers that built it weren't Americans? The same goes for our Camaros and Firebirds. They weren't made by Americans but buying them supported GM, an American company. And vice versa for the foreign cars assembled here. You might be supporting a foreign company if you buy their cars, but that company provides jobs to Americans here in the US, and therefore you are also helping the economy here in the US. As I said, it's obviously a lot more complicated that the simple "buy American" slogans that came about years ago.
When it comes to buying cars, I say buy what suits your needs. If a foreign car fits your needs, then go for it. It really doesn't make a lot of sense to dismiss something that can be very useful to you just because it isn't made in the USA. While patriotism is admirable, it unfortunately doesn't always fit logically with the global economy of today.
That said, all three of our cars are American!!
