I finally stared to work on my son's 1979 Berlinetta and fix the body damage it recieved last fall on the way to the NEOCC Fall Classic while inside an enclosed trailer that was involved in a accident trying to avoid an accident. The strong steel inner wheel well of the trailer punched a huge square hole in the left 1/4 panel and caved the door and rocker panel in. The car even bent the trailer inner fender (which appears to be about 3/16"-1/4" thick). We had to cut out the damaged piece of 1/4 panel, straighten the rocker as much as we could and staighten the door before welding in a new piece into the 1/4 panel. This weekend we should have the welds ground and the area smoothed out and ready for paint. What stinks is that this car had all original sheetmetal panels and they were very clean.

That stinks. Is someone else paying for the repairs?

It probably would have been $1,000-$1,500 to repair by the time you figure a 1/4 panel would need to be replaced. The door skin and inner frame is bent about 12" from the door edge.Luckily the door is the original rust free door and has never been unbolted from the car so I know what is under that paint.

It sucks that the car really only needed a paint job at the most. Ryan was so happy to get it back on the road and take it to his 2nd out of town show...and then that happened. Well all I can say is this car will look even better and straighter than it was before...and it was pretty straight prior to this damage .

Why won't any kind of ins. cover this? If there was an accident involved you were avoiding and had an accident doing so, sounds as if you weren't at fault. Color me confused. Posted by Hawkeye (Member # 88) on :

My son or I were not driving the tow vehicle. Yes insurance from the tow vehicle would have covered it... but he did not claim it because he stated his rates would triple. My son on the other hand, had insurance on his car too but after waiting a while to see if the other person's insurance was going to cover it...I believe too much time had passed.

I never have any time. You could bring the SS over and we could install the headers at my house this weekend if you want to.I know I have time for that. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

Actually, besides the door bottom pushed in,I just noticed that it does not fit the 1/4 panel very good anymore about 1/2 way up. Posted by LT14SHOW (Member # 2187) on :
I didn`t know that happened. I`m sure you will have it good as new. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
