Thought I would pass this along since it concerns ALL of us.........

Got into work today and the boss warned us that a new Virus was out. It comes in the form of an Attachment that comes from a person that we know.

We were warned to contact the person sending the attachment to see if they had sent us something. The virus has caused problems for the Universitys computers for awhile .

From what I understand the bug gets into the address book and starts to send out email to get the other person to open it. It has not affected the Macs only Windows based machines.

Just wanted to share this and hopefully no one has a problem as the bugs are coming out faster than the fixes.

Thanks I got that warning awhile back and maybe should have said something. I don't worry to much getting from my friends or anyone as I have the latest updated virus scan and as I have AOL 9.0 it scans all incoming e-mail and out-going and my messengers scan also

Guess I am lucky but just in case I keep everything important on disk and if I did get one I could not catch or get rid of I would just write the hard-drive to oooos and reload everything I need. About 3 years ago I got a virus that only went after my Norton anti-virus. You could not uninstall norton or reload it so I had to take the hard drive to oooos and start over and I lost all my digital pics and alot of stuff so from then on I keep things I don't want to lose copied to a disk. I now have more than one copy of what I don't want to lose

What is the name of the virus? I seriously doubt that anti virus software would NOT help. They are on top of these things and always release updates after the discovery of a virus.

ALWAYS keep virus definitions up to date. Never open email from people you don't know, and stop using outlook express.

FWIW, threads like these do more damage. Most of the time these warnings are false.

You can believe what you want but several people in the shop have gotten emails WITH Attachments from FAMILY members who DID NOT send them. Also how do you update virus software if you dont know how or where it will appear.A thread like this is to inform people. How can Knowledge cause damage.
