OK....hail in the forecast yesterday....last year at this time, babyT was a garage queen.....I have to park him on this huge lot with not a tree in sight.....
HELLLLLPPPPPP!!!! Do those car covers (SLP, Wolfe, etc.) offer any protection at all from small/medium hail?? I figure with large hail, he's gonna be toast anyway....
Any suggestions?? Posted by biSScuit (Member # 2030) on :
Yeah, make sure you got insurance that covers hail damage! Posted by Hawkeye (Member # 88) on :
I have a Noah and it's thick enough to offer protection for rain and hail. The standard SLP cover is very thin and is an indoor dust cover only.

I would go with a Wolf NOAH, heck I did! I had the SLP one and it's good for indoors but water goes right through it.
With your Camaro its a good news/badnews scenario.
The good news is that in a hail storm, your car wont dent because everything except the rear fenders are composites (plastic). The bad news is hail can still chip the paint. I would concentrate on finding a cover that has a thick padding underneath. Thats probably all you need to keep the hail from chipping the paint. I would also try to fabricate some padding for the tops of your rear fenders but I wouldn't be too concerned about using it unless they are forecasting hail. With the curvature of the fenders, you have extra strength there which probably makes this area of the car less prone to denting. But the padding would add a little extra insurance.
Your hail storms are legendary down there, aren't they? My brother bought a truck from a fellow in Texas that had been thru a hail storm. That thing was loaded with dents!

Get the Noah Wolf cover. It will also not scratch your paint like the SLP nylon cover will. Posted by Kevin V 2002 SS (Member # 1025) on :
I bought the GM car cover that says CAMARO on the front of it, I really like it.

Yep.....they're a b!tch.....the last one we had broke the rear window COMPLETELY OUT of my son's friend's car that was parked in our driveway, and dented the h3ll out of the Jeep......and that was just golf-ball-size hail!!!

Is that the one you had at BG??
Thanks, guys!! Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
Here is a Noah Wolf car cover. My 30th Anniversary Z28 was outside in snow and was just as clean as it was before it was covered.
THen again , when my Brickyard 400 becomes an expensive shelf...the Noah Wolf comes thru again! Posted by Sizzle (Member # 503) on :
I have had both the SLP and the Noah. The Noah by far! To even take it a step further. Put the Noah on there and then either take some old blankets or buy some cheap ones to put on top of the car cover. Extra padding.
Good luck.

I agree.... a nice thick cotton comforter under the car cover is probably the best. Just remember, that comforter will get wet under the slp cover.

blankets....good idea!!!
Are these covers pretty easy to get on & off? What about the antenna?? (may have to put in that power antenna mod!)

All of that stuff on the car was Ryan's. Notice the Noah Wolf cover laying on it.

I bought all 3 that we had from the National Parts Depot. I believe I paid around $140-$150 each for them. www.npdlink.com Posted by Orange 01 SS (Member # 1700) on :
When you think it's going to hail and the sky turns green, drive it over to the pay & spray car wash and park in there for a few minutes until it goes away. That's what I usually do anyway.

Try Afterthoughts I think we get a discount. Or California custom Car where I got mine.

Millie... I have the Weathershield cover which I love. It repels water unlike any other I've seen. The cheapest place to get it is www.autoanything.com They have a 365 lowest price guarentee also. I've had mine over a year now and love it. Its also the only one that can be washed in a home washer. Also you can just throw a heavy comforter of the car before a hail storm is coming then the car cover. Thats what i did
and now I see they come in pretty colors!!

Millie it was bad where we were and late at night and we coming home from Florida and was about 80 miles from home when we ran into it and I slowed to about 30 MPH and drove on in it but he said at his house it was bigger than a golf ball it did alot of damage to the composite on his car as well as the new paint job he had just got dome on it and the windshield was broke in several places bad. The other time I was out late at night coming from PENN from a show up there is was hailing so bad it stopped all trafic on the interstate in the middle of the road you could not see to pull off the road it was so hard and about the size of a quarter. I don't see how the SS made it through that but it did Posted by LT14SHOW (Member # 2187) on :

Would this make a good reason for..."Why I trailer my car!"? We all still drive our "Babes", but hate to see it happen to them, right? It never fails to happen when we least expect it! Jim
