Start by saying I bought my 02 SS new, it only had 34 miles on it when I picked it up at the dealer. Now it has a little over 5000.

On the way home from work yesterday I stopped off and got a battery for my SS. Figured the battery was a couple years old and could start leaking at any time. Went to change it this morning, put the ratchet on the bolt to loosen the hold down and it just keeps turning, never does loosen. Pull the little panels under the car off so I can see up in there and there is a nut on the bolt. Use a wrench to take the nut off and now I can push the bolt right up and out. Look at the bolt and the threads are stripped where it goes thought the inter-fender/frame fastener that is supposed to hold it.

OK did they do this at the factory, run the bolt down to tight and strip it, putting a nut underneath to hold the battery in place or was the battery changed for some reason at the dealer and they did it. My experience with this dealer says it was done at the factory as the jerks at the dealership would have just left it loose.

And people wonder why I won't let anyone work on my car.

Know whatyou mean Bob I don't like my car out of my site at a shop anywhere. I guess it was done at the factory though. Sorry and when you put panels back under the car watch the push pins that they go back tight and don't come out later I lost one and had to get new push pull pins

There is a weld nut that the battery hold down bolt goes thru. Sounds like it broke off when the bolt was cross threaded.

I know what you mean Bob. The only people I let work on my vehicles are my brother and my self. I learned alot from helping him growing up and whenever one of us has problems we seek out each other.
