Bought a 97 C5 in 2002. Got title, registration and even took to a dealer once or twice! Went today and now VIN# is coming back as a 97 Monte Carlo. Just got finished checking Car Fax and Consumer reports and they agree it is a 97 C5!
HELP!
Who can i check with?

Was the title printed with a typo?
Take the car to the DMV and have them look at the VIN, compare it with what they printed for you, and ask them to correct the mistake.

I can tell you what the VIN means if you post it or send it to me. Posted by alfredf00_1673 (Member # 142) on :
Just got off phone with GM and it seems we are the third call today regarding VIn #'s. They agree it is a 97 C5. Seems GM did some upgrade to their system and something got messed up. They say that the YY in the VIN# is a C5. Hopefully they will be able to get it right but girl on phone could offer no guarantees.

1997 Corvette VIN Numbers: 1G1YY22G1V5100001 through 1G1YY22G1V5******
The 9th Digit is a check code, and varies.
The 8th Digit is the Engine Code (G=345.69ci 345hp LS1)

This is the # 1G1YY22G1V51*****. When the dealership enters into thier computer it comes back as a Monte Carlo. go figure
the dealer says the last 8 numbers are what they look at and those lock it in as a Monte Carlo.
I sure hope they get it straightened out!

That sounds backwards. Something isn't right. It's the 1st group of #'s that describe Country of Orgin (where built), platform, body style, engine, check digit, etc. The last 6 #'s are the production sequence.

Well there are two ways to look at it, If it comes back as Monte Carlo. Insurance is ALOT cheaper on a Monte Carlo than a Vette. HeHe!
