I met Jon a few times and he always seemed to be a top notch person and a big car enthusiasts. Glad I was able to have him sign my Brickyard 400 at the Woodward Dream Cruise. He will be missed.Maybe he will come back to GM as a consultant. Posted by SS_CarGuy (Member # 2065) on :
Jon was one those hidden assets at GM that not a lot of people were aware of except all of us hard core enthusiasts. He will be missed greatly. It's too bad GM couldn't have turned more of his creations into realities. He produced some awesome cars on his watch!

GM's top customizer calls it quits
By K.C. Crain Automotive News / March 15, 2004
DETROIT -The head of General Motors' custom and performance shop is retiring after 38 years at the company.
Jon Moss, 62, manager of specialty vehicles, has one of the best jobs in Detroit for car nuts. He produced performance vehicles for shows and production. Vehicles that came out of his garage were tricked out, souped up, dropped or jacked.
His productions include the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with 770 hp and the Chevrolet Corvette Tiger Shark, with a supercharged 427-cubic-inch engine. A well-known production car, the 1994 Impala SS, was based on his team's 1992 Impala SS 510.
At last year's Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, Moss' team showed high-performance "Xtreme" concept vehicles from Chevrolet, customized Pontiac concepts and various accessories.
Moss started at GM in 1966 as a layout designer in the Chevrolet engineering center. He was promoted to manager of Chevrolet's special vehicles in 1986. He was promoted to his current job in 1999.
His retirement is effective April 1.

Where do we send our resume? Have they named a replacement yet?
I think Jon Moss should pick his replacement so that he can leave knowing that a real car enthusiast gets the job.

I don't think so... he likes his rustangs too much. Its someone from the inside... If I were a betting man I would bet on Mark Reuss...

Actually, in the past two years, Jon reported to Mr. Reuss.
The job has been filled by a couple of people. One will 'build' stuff, another will work the enthusiast events...and others will work on "pumping up" stuff.

And for the record...I'm gonna miss the hell outta him......
