The may issue of Super Chevy has a good article on do's and don't's for mods on an LS1.

Do's
1. SFC
2. Cat-back exhaust
3. LT headers
4. Upgrade Valvetrain
5. Be careful with compression
6. Be careful with pulleys
7. High stall converter
8. Short -throw shifter
9. Ring and pinion in M6
10. Drag Radials

Don't's
1. Port stock MAF
2. Larger throttle body on stock engine
3. Go nuts with exhaust
4. Delete the Torque managerment table or knock protection
5. Invest in an intake manifold
6. Use a 160-degree thermo without fan control
7. Use O/2 sims up front
8. Neglect fuel system

They seemed to forget about downshifting a manual trans a gear or two then bouncing off the rev limiter bending a pushrod. [Smile]

Delete the Torque managerment table or knock protection

I wouldn have done that [Razz] [Wink] you gain a lot of torque when you do , but as long as you do not remove the knocking protection you're fine [Cool]

so in short, be careful in doing it ... if you do know what you're doing [Smile]

Why not Intake Manifold? Is it a case of money/performance trade off not being worth it?

No they didn't! [Wink] By suggesting that the valvetrain be upgraded, the article seems to be taking for granted that the engine will be over-revved, by hook or by crook! [Razz]
Been there, done that as well!

Best regardSS,

Elie
