A few years ago, our department/division/whatever instituted the policy of a "Perfect Attendance Award". They'd have a meeting or luncheon (nothing special - pizza) and give you an expense voucher for a dinner worth $100 or more. $100 was for your first year; if it was your second consecutive year it was $150, etc.

Well, we just had our "luncheon": This year, though, it turns out that if you had perfect attendance for consecutive years, you only got $50. First-timers still got $100. Their rationalization for this was: "Well, we gave you $100 for the first year, so the cumulative total is now $150 for your second year." (Or more if you had multiple consecutive years)

Talk about a public relations disaster! For the sake of $1000-$1500, they just managed to piss everyone off who had more than one consecutive year of perfect attendance. What a way to destroy any incentive to conscientiously come to work. I bet that next year's awards luncheon is mighty small!

[Mad]

Were you going to buy a new pool with your attendance bonus? Maybe you can get your goofy cousin to kidnap your boss. [Big Grin]

It's so funny to hear lame management excuses. I don't understand how those people got to where they are - it's obvious that it's worth WELL more than the $1500 to keep employees happy than to save that money for the company. [Frown]

My company does similar things - one woman wanted a $2000 a year raise. She manages a department and deserves it. Management said no. They also gave everyone cost of living adjustments and lower bonuses due to the "slow economy" yet seemed OK with taking 50,000 - 95,000 each for their "bonus"!!!! [Eek!] [Mad]

Well, they're backpeddling....

Those of us who had consecutive years of perfect attendance received the following email around 3:00 -

quote:
There has been a revision to the vouchers that you have been given for your perfect attendance. Employees that have maintained perfect attendance for 2 or more consecutive years are entitled to a $150 voucher. I will be distributing the additional vouchers to you.

Thank you,

I can only say -what a bunch of idiots.

Companies frequently complain about lack of employee 'loyalty', then they come up with 'interesting' ideas, like the one here. [Confused]

I can bet the attendence record will be a lot worse the next year or two!! Seeing that isn't much of an incentive...even though you shouldn't need an incentive to call off work. I have only missed 2 days of work in the 4 years I've worked with the bank.
Other incentives might work though ertaining to reaching goals/sales...Our branch too in the most loan applications the last 2 weeks, and now the branch is treated to a nice dinner in a place i the area...PLUS, each employee gets a small bonus for referring customers, etc.

Ah well...thats the working life!

So a better strategy would be to have perfect attendance only every OTHER year.. you make more $$ in the end and goof off every other year [Big Grin]

Brilliant corp strategy!!!!
