For strictly an appearance mod, I don't think it matters very much. Especially when you consider that GM doesn't make them anymore.
I am interested in the reproductions because I love the look of the lenses. And it doesn't matter to me who makes them as long as they are good quality items.

The originals will be DOT approved. The imitation ones will be "for off road use only".
