Tora! Tora! Tora!

The whole movie is a set up for the last line in the movie "I fear we have awaken a sleeping giant" (or something pretty close to that).

I need to rent that one, as well as "The Longest Day", and see what they are like.

The Thin Red Line. Though it was excruciating to watch. As it it was long and not very good.

A brigde too far...good movie, good book, and also a must for WWII history / movie fans.

All of the above... plus, "The Great Escape".

A Bridge Too Far and Tora Tora Tora ............ both are totally factual ......... no "human interest" or "romantic" crap thrown in to try to make them box office hits

Saving Private Ryan is also an extremely powerful WWII movie .......... I think it is probably the greatest "Anti-War" movie ever made ........... thruthfully portrays the horrors of war

I'm like the old B&W war movies, e.g. The Longest Day, Sands of Iwo Jima, Midway, The Battle of the Bulge, To Hell & Back, etc. There's a ton of them out there.

Here's a link to a good web site: Classic Films

PS: I think Sargeant York is WWI.

My favorites:

Patton
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Kelly's Heros
Dirty Dozen

A couple of others to consider:

The Big Red One
The Great Escape
The Bridge on the River Kwai

And don't forget, for great historical accuracy, get all seasons of Hogans Heroes!

Enemy at the Gate is good,
The Big Red One,
Iron Cross (James Coburn)
Saving Private Ryan,
The Blue Max (WWI)
Night of the Generals (Murder Mystery)
along with the above, plus others I'll think of later...There was also one about Rommel that was pretty good.
