We just got back from the Colorado Camaro Club "Pot Luck" lunch at Mr. Larry Christensen's house. Some of you may know him personally, others may know him by his many cars featured in articles in nationally published magazines. Let me just say wow. As we drove up to his house, I saw a line of Camaros on the right side of the driveway, 10 in all, from 67 to the famed ZL1. I said to a member, that this is a huge turn out, more than I expected, he said no, those are Larry's cars, the others are over here”. I said, “Oh an even bigger turn out”.
Can you believe it, what a collection. No wonder they call him Mr. Camaro. I could go on all day about the cars he had, like every Camaro Pace car, a (I think 87) Camaro that was bought from a dealer that was stored in the dealerships basement that only had 58 miles on it. I understand it won a trophy for the "Most unrestored original car" go figure, it still had plastic on the seats and floors. I had my first close encounter with a Yenko Camaro, he also had an original ZL1 427 engine on a stand. Do I sound like a kid in a candy store yet?
As Larry took me around his cars (a great person too by the way), describing each one, we stopped at a phase II GMMG car. He fired it up for me to hear and I asked if he was having the same tight shifting problems as I was having with mine. His reply has got to be the quote of the year. He said, “I don’t think I’ve drove this one yet”. Can you believe it.
Of all the cars there, I think I was most impressed with the ZL1 GMMG Camaro. The Yenko, and “Stinger” tie for second, but that ZL1 is simply awesome.
By the way, he told me to scrap my Hurst Shifter and go with a Pro 5.0, he says it made dramatic improvements, and may fix my problem, just in case you wanted to know.
We took a bunch of pictures, so I’ll post them when we get them developed. I just wanted to share our experience with you all. Until next time.
Chief

Wow is right!
BTW I went with the Hurst billet+ and it works much better than the standard SS Hurst.

Larry is a very nice guy and does have an awesome collection.
I didn't know that he had a late model Phase II ZL1 but I did know he had a late model Phase III ZL1 that he has drag raced several times. In fact, his Phase III was the cover car in the last GM High Tech Performance magazine.

Patrick, have you made plans to try and join us on our way to the Bowling Green, KY event in September? Our route planning is dependent on whether we're hooking up with you along the way or not.

That yellow ZL1 GMMG Camaro is one of the all time best Camaros ever. Each time I look at the cover of GM High Tech Performance Magazine with that car on the cover, I get green with envy. That thing is awesome!

I am planning on it. However, I have to wait until my unit returns so I can see what is in store for us in the months to come. My unit is do back very soon. I will contact you when I am certain that date is clear. If you could, give me a drop dead date as to when you have to know whether or not I'm joining to convoy.

...Sounds very cool indeed. Larry is a great guy as well as an avid collector (that's obvious . ...and somehow he manages to bring many of his cars to the shows in PA, KY, etc. ...those should be some memorable pics with all the cars in one shot.
Hope all is well,
Kevin

If we hook up with you, our route is I-70. Otherwise, we're planning on going I-80. Depending on who wants to join us on either route, we can adjust either way. If you know by the beginning of September, that would be fine.
