Finally, all the paperwork, permits, phone-tag games, and all the other hassles with getting a home-building project underway...long way to go though. Here's the pictures of after the initial rough land clearing the other day. I'm looking straight down the "driveway", standing in the "doorway" of what will be my 40 x 40 shop. House will be off to the left half-way up the clearing with a turnoff to go into the attached side-entrance garage. Plenty of front and backyard AND a big hobby shop. I can't wait.
And oh yes, the little white dot you see in the above picture is sun reflecting off the bumper of the Z. It's parked fifty feet from the main road, and about 325 feet from the garage.....and I'm standing in the middle of our land. There's another 375 feet behind me. Here's the zoom shot of the Z:
Obviously not our house, but the finished product will look something like this file pic: Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
Wow, that will be some nice house when done with enough land to give you options and the neighbors will be far enough away! Posted by Cavy Dan (Member # 1352) on :

Like Dan said take lots of pics it will help in the future. I have a photo album of ours all the way down to the wires and ducts in the walls . When the drywall is up you wont know where they are.
It is a fun and frustrating experience. Keep on top of the builder to make sure you get what you paid for.And check the progress as much as you can. I did this every day as I drove by it from work and cought several major mistakes before it was to late. (Ex. the fireplace foundation would have put it right in the middle of the familyroom AND bedroom windows)

First, thanks for the words of encouragement. This is the first time building, so it's a huge learning curve from just buying what's already built. Anyone who has built, you know what I'm talking about. Everyone's said I'll end up hating my contractor by the time it's over.
Below is SIMILAR to what the shop should look like when I'm done. 40 x 40 x 10. The one pictured is smaller. But it'll have 2 rollup doors, 1 walk-in door and no windows just like this one. I'm paying cash for the building, so right now I can't afford anything bigger. The idea is that later I can remove one end wall and add another 20 feet or so. That's the long-term plan, anyway. I plan to add on to the small pole barn my new house will have. I want to add a 40X48 with a 10' or 12' rafters so I could use a hoist. Money will be the biggest thing keeping me from doing this right away. Once the ban is added, then I will probably vynyl side it and add some windows.Your 40X40 will still be a nice size barn for starters. These are built so you can add to them.
