Sad to see the old go, but it clears the way for the future, hopefully (although not in the same location).

That is sad to see, But atleast we had a 5 year reprieve from the wrecking ball so many more could get the chance to get a F-Body [Smile] .

It was the wife who told me on the plant being shut down and that was it, now we have a great 35TH in the garage [Big Grin] .

I guess while the plant was standing, there was
a faint glimmer of hope that someday, maybe
someday, it would spring back to life. Now
it's official. Like - the coffing going into
the ground, may the dead rest in peace.

Actually - I drove by the plant a couple years
ago. It was just a brief drive by, but at least
I could say I was there.

Lets all enjoy what we have. [Big Grin]

Although it is a sad event, this is actually good news. I am sure many here have read that there is no possibility of a future Camaro while that plant is standing. This doesn't mean a new Camaro is certain, but it does at least help clear a path for one.

The Camaro nameplate is what we're hoping to see revived, not the platform. [Wink] The F platform is dead. Done. Finis.

Chris-

Thanks for the pic of the team- too often we relate to a building or place, and forget individuals and their contributions.

Are you allowed to make threats!?!? Isn't there some type of unwritten rule you aren't supposed to do that!?!? [Razz] [Razz]

I am not union, not protecting or supporting them.

Just stating that if GM moves production of some make believe Camaro in the future, the CAW will make life pretty miserable[or expensive ] for them.

Because GM will have lied to the union and they usually don't like that.

Wish I could have gone through the plant to find the BOLT left off my right front sway bar bracket. Maybe the quality will pick up on the next go around at the F-Bodies?

Hey the bright side is that when the Camaro DOES return, there's a better chance that this 'icon of America' will actually be made in America!

Ah, but camaro is more than just a nameplate. More than just a platform. Its the sound of a rumbling v8 in the morning, the smell of burnt rubber at a green light, the sensation of being pushed back into your seat by the sudden acceleration.

Its also the smooth feel of curves as you wipe off dried zaino, the polish of the chrome wheels, and the wind in your hair when the tops are out. its the friendships made hanging out at sonic or hooters, and the ones made through boards. Its the rivalry with ricers, and with the stang drivers.

Camaro is a lot of things, but not just a nameplate. Not just a car.

That goes without saying, but remember, there were other engines in Camaros through the years.....

Yes, but when you say the word "Camaro" no one visualizes a V-6.
I don't have any particular feelings for the factory. I don't much care where they build them, just build them. I do feel bad for the people who worked there.

I'd be willing to take a bet on this. Because as you said later, I don't think the next one will be made in CA. And GM appears to be abiding, to the letter, with the contract.

But you need those base model sales to keep the entire line profitable.

A V8 car alone wont move enough units.

Case in point, Mustang sales. In 2003, they sold a little over 150,000 total units. Of them, half were V6 models.

They're not all V-6 either. My '67 is a straight 6. -

In the 80s they had 4 bangers available in the Camaro/Firebird!!

A clean example of that could be worth something I would think!!!

Posted by Z28-SORR (Member # 1565) on 31 March, 2004 04:14 PM:

All true in fact the 2001 numbers show 16,357 V6's and only 12,652 V8's.
But it wasn't the V6's, straight 6's, or 4's that made Camaro's famous. It was the 302ci. Z28 Trans Am racers, the 350 & 396 SS's and the COPO 427's. Plus of course, one of the best looking car ever produced.
