Went to Auto Show Today and saw the NEW SS Cobalt.
Looks like they will put the SS emblem on anything!
2 liter Vortec 170 HP with tuned suspension!! I can hardly wait!! NOT!!!!!
Did see the Concept SS though that is a nice looking vehicle.

Not a GM factory SS but a Tom Henry SS. Posted by alfredf00_1673 (Member # 142) on :
As a matter of fact there was a Trail Blazer SS on display. Think it is going to be a 6.0

I knew about the Trailblazer, but the Tom Heny Tahoe I bet has some performance stuff on it. Not like the heavy Silverado SS.

That trailblazer SS aint too bad...supposed to have 345 hp, Corsa exhaust, huge 20" wheels, etc
The Cobalt SS is going to have over 200hp.
Its just a marketing scheme, whether you like it or not. ANd of coruse we all will take offense to it since the Camaro was the frist to be badged with the "SS" (dont quote me on that).
Kinda like what Dodge did with the "SRT" (Viper, Neon, etc.) and Ford did with the "SVT" (Cobra, focus, etc).

I won't quote you Dan. Actually there was a Corvette SS prototype in the 1950's...I think 1957 or so. The 1st Chevrolet production car to wear the "SS" badges was the 1961 Impala SS. A very rare car today! Posted by Cavy Dan (Member # 1352) on :
I didn't think i was right.... well..lets just say the SS badge stems from the muscle car era. Posted by Elie Garfinkel (Member # 1635) on :

Yup! The very 1st "SS"! All Impala SS models had bucket seats, but were initially available with a column shift if the console was not ordered. As well, after '61 (when an Impala SS was only available with a 348 or 409 V8)it was possible to get a 6 cyl. Impala SS during '62- '64! So now we end up at a point where we have 4 cyl. SS models (just plain sacrelege!)and mofo SS-badged trucks whose claim to athleticism is somewhat analogous to a sumo wrestler!?!
Best regardSS,
Elie

You are correct... the SS Cobalt will have a blower on it... and it will have "over" 200hp, which compares to well with the competition SVT Focus, Neon SRT-10 etc.

You mean SRT-4 UNfortunately the SRT-4 will still probably beat the SS as it has 240hp and the SS is going to only have 215 i believe. The SVT Focus will probably still out handle the SS as well. Just gotta see what GM's final decision is. GOnna be a sweet car none the less, and around $20k, is probably the best bang for the buck....for now.... Posted by Z28-SORR (Member # 1565) on :
The "SS" badge has never been a body specific tag. But is supposed to represent the top of the line in any body style. Particularly in horse power and handling. If GM continues to market it in this way I have no real problem with it. GM needs to break into the small car market very badly. However if GM is going to put the "SS" on the Cobalt it better be the best small car in that market segment.
